It might be a cynical thing-- That is, they know that fans are going to buy the thing whether they animate those episodes or not.
I haven't watched much Second Doctor, so I think this was the first time I'd seen Ben and Polly. I'd seen stuff with Jamie before, but that was around 1990, so my memories are pretty vague.
