I read this one:

Stead, Rebecca. When You Reach Me.

It fascinated me. It takes place in New York City, about two blocks from where I grew up, at the same time when I was growing up. If I remember right, the main characters are just a year or two different from me in age. We even had a homeless guy who we called "The Chicken Man" who used to bay at the parking meters -- who the guy in this story who used to lie around under the mailbox reminded me of. I also thought it was an imaginative book, so I enjoyed it for that. But just the part about writing about when and where I grew up was enough all by itself for the book to have a special place in my heart.
