Batman: Gotham Knight - I didn’t like the aesthetics here, and I was completely bored by the plot. I finished the movie with only a vague idea of what on earth I was supposed to get from it. Some of that may be me getting distracted, but if this were able to hold me, I’d be watching with attention. Um… Batman hit things a lot?

Bletchley Circle episodes 1-3 - It took us months to get through these three episodes because they were stressful. Good, very well done, but too stressful. I liked the characters a lot, and I liked the way they worked together. It’s just that there’s a reason why I don’t watch many mystery series unless they’re decidedly on the cosy side.

Captain America: Civil War - That was a movie. Scott and Cordelia both wanted me to love it, but, you know, I haven’t loved any of the MCU movies. I don’t hate any of them. They’re just sort of there. I’m glad to have seen the movie because it gives me context for discussions I’ve read.

Coconuts - Marx Brothers. I felt like Harpo and Chico looked a lot younger here than they did in the other movies we watched. All five movies seem to have been made in a relatively short time, just a few years (this one was, I think, the earliest), so I don’t know that it’s actual aging so much as choices about presentation. I only watched about half of this because I desperately needed sleep, but I did get to the why a duck bit.

Continuum season 2 DVD 3 - We watched all three episodes on this DVD in one evening. I’m not entirely pleased with where things went because it involves opening up all sorts of plot threads that don’t connect very well to the original story. I can see needing new plot threads in order to keep the series going, but… I hate it when shows do that at the end of a season. I realize that it’s a storytelling choice that’s intended to make the audience eager for more, but it just annoys me because it reminds me of all the times I’ve seen it done when there never was more.

Electra Woman and Dyna Girl (2016) - I only made it about fifteen minutes into this. I felt depressed by what I was seeing at that point, so I didn’t feel like going on. There’s a long wait list for this at the library, so I’m not going to have time to try again. And, really, why would I?

Foyle’s War: The German Woman - This has no captioning. I think I mostly followed what was going on, but I had trouble making out half of Foyle’s dialogue. That made me reluctant to persevere, so I only got about twenty minutes in. I wonder if there’s a way to filter library searches according to whether or not something’s captioned? It seems like a useful thing.

Great Minds of the Eastern Intellectual Tradition - 36 half hour lectures by Professor Grant Hardy from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Looking at the library catalog, most of these lecture series are available both as DVDs and as CDs. I’ll have to experiment to see which I prefer. The DVDs aren’t captioned, so that’s not a factor. The lecturer here was assuming no pre-existing knowledge about China, India, Japan, etc. on the part of viewers, and I have the impression that he tried hard to give context for the various people, works, and systems of belief he talked about. He emphasized that science, religion, and philosophy really can’t be separated in this context.

Superman Batman: Public Enemies - I didn’t recognize all of the characters, but I still had a reasonable amount of fun. I don’t know that I’d watch it again, but I also don’t know that I wouldn’t.

Yu Yu Hakusho season 1 episodes 1-2 - There were holds on this so I had to return it before I finished it. I just kept stopping and not coming back for quite a long time because I wasn’t comfortable. It wasn’t anything wrong with the show. I have this problem with pretty much anything I try to watch unless I’m watching with someone who can keep me anchored and going on.
