It's not that I like the second set better. I very much prefer the Corwin books as a reader. The Merlin books are fundamentally broken in ways that make me itch to try to fix them, so I'm more likely to write fic for them, but as a reader, they frustrate me horribly. Merlin is about the least interesting character in them. The main way that I deal with Merlin is by assuming that, when he talks to Corwin (or to anyone else from Amber), he lies through his teeth pretty constantly.
This scenario won't rely much on anything in the second series but will be set afterward. Part of what I need to work out is which bits of those books are true for this. Mainly, I need extra time because I need Random and Vialle to have three kids who have already walked the Pattern.
The scenario is going to revolve around there having been multiple attempts to assassinate Martin. The PCs will all have reasons to want to figure out what's going on. Some of them may be more concerned with putting blame on some other faction than their own than they are with keeping Martin alive.
But I can't decide who's actually behind it all, and that decision will necessarily shape everything else. There are so many possibilities that I just look at the list blankly.
