I wouldn't try and pin it down too much, especially in Amber. Depending on the scenario, have a start, have an understanding of what elements of the setting the PCs are likely to interact with, and preferably have some ideas about how you can control the pace. (Mainly how you can quickly bring things to a head if the PCs have farted around a lot, but some ideas about how you can extend things if they're dashing towards the resolution a bit too quickly is also good.)
