I'm going to assume that you've all seen the wishlist meme. I need to wander around a bit to see if there are wishes I can grant (I've seen one or two and taken note).

This one ended up being hard for me. I'm including the third section mostly for me and for amusement. Well, and just in case anybody on my friends list has a magic wand or some such. ::grins:: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] adrian_turtle for the title of that section.

If you want to do something with this and need my snail mail address (or Delia's) e-mail me. My address is in my profile. If I don't know you, I may want to talk a bit before I give you the address, but I'm generally less paranoid about that than I probably should be. Too many people on my friends list know me offline for me to really hide my identity.

Wishlists

For Delia:
1) Cards or postcards. Delia's always hugely thrilled to get anything at all in the mail. She just lights up.

2) Someone willing to come by and play card and board games with Delia. (I panic when I try most games, so I tend to avoid even those that don't cause problems and to find other things to do when we could play, say, Chutes and Ladders.)

3) A laptop of her own. Right now, she uses Scott's when he's not home or not using it. She doesn't desperately need one of her own, but I'd feel better if she were using one that didn't have all of Scott's stuff on it. I worry that she'll delete something accidentally or close something that hasn't been saved properly or... Well, she's still largely pre-literate. There are a lot of things she can do while trying to get the results she wants that would be unfortunate. Also, on a laptop of her own, it would be easier to police the bookmarks. She's only interested in pbskids.org and things of that sort. Scott's tastes are broader, and she can't navigate his bookmarks without a lot of help. She uses Firefox and Word now, getting the internet and printer through our airport. She also sometimes watches DVDs on Scott's laptop. Given her own laptop, I'd probably look into educational software/games for her.

For me (moderately realistic list):
1) DVDs from my wishlist. (The detailed wishlist is at my website. I'm too lazy to keep up a list at Amazon or anywhere else that has that clunky an interface.)

2) CDs from
my wishlist.

3) Books from
my wishlist. This is a severely edited version of my BookMooch wishlist. The BookMooch wishlist has some things on it that I want desperately, some things that I want but am not desperate for and a lot of things that I saw somewhere that made them sound interesting and that my library doesn't have. I tried to remove most of the last group from the list. Doing that means that much of the non-manga portion of the list consists of older titles that may only be available used. They're there in case someone, by some miracle, has a used copy sitting around that he or she doesn't want or spots one dirt cheap at a local booksale.

4) JoAnn's gift cards in any amount to feed my yarn habit. (I'd also like my local JoAnn's to start carrying Caron brand Charming yarn again.)

5) A beta reader who's good at spotting the problems in my writing and at telling me about them, who's willing to read any fandom I write and any subject matter that I write, who won't be upset by any of it, and who's always available when I need something beta read. I'm also looking for a writing cheerleader whose schedule and availability matches mine. (In both cases, I know that this probably belongs more on the fantasy wishlist, but I've put it here because it's *possible*.)

6) Help with some sorting and getting rid of the excess stuff around here (without nagging me to get rid of all of our books). This could consist simply of getting Delia out of the way so that I can go through her toys, but I'd also welcome company for the sorting, transportation of the junk to the Reuse Center (or to wherever it needs to go), helping move things that are too heavy for me (anything more than 15 pounds) or even things that aren't out to the garage for Scott to haul away later. I can only manage an hour or two of this sort of thing at a time before I collapse, even when I have help.

7) An exercise partner who won't be put off by my needing to start at five minutes of walking at a time, by my need to put Delia first or by my lack of transportation and flexibility in what I can do and where and when I can do it.

8) Anime fansubs for complete series or at least seasons of things you think I'd like. Unlicensed stuff only (I'll take recs for licensed stuff, happily, and look for it on Netflix). I'd also be interested in similar sorts of files for unlicensed shows from other countries, too. My preference is to have this stuff come already burned to CD because I'm a technological idiot and have very little space on my harddrive.

9) Writing time and space. (Quite possibly, this should go on the fantasy list rather than the realistic list...) I seem to work best in blocks of at least four hours at a time. This is not very easy with a four year old child around. I also work best when I'm alone in a space where I can either play music or play a VHS tape or DVD that I don't have to pay a lot of attention to (last year, I watched a lot of episodes of Sherlock Holmes while writing "Precipice"). Currently, I work either in our living room or in our basement. Neither's well suited to it, for different reasons. If anybody local has time to help me get the basement cleaned a little bit, it would become better suited to writing than it currently is. Right now, there isn't a place for me to sit.

10) A tabletop role playing campaign that meets regularly, at least every other week. I'm willing to GM or to play. I don't have transportation, so I prefer a game over here (plus, over here, I know that I won't run into unexpected allergy triggers). I'm willing to learn a new system if I have to. I prefer a game heavily skewed toward character interaction, role playing and politics.

For me (fantasy list):
1) A new job for Scott that doesn't involve half killing himself, overtime with no warning, general management hypocrisy. Preferably a job in which he can use the computer skills he has and learn the ones he wants to have and that isn't too much of a pay cut. Oh, and with benefits.

2) A place to live with a location as good as our current one but with more space, energy efficiency, etc. To make it even better, all of our friends should live within walking distance. (Or this could be combined with fantasy #6...)

3) A personal assistant available while Scott's at work to help with chores, with Delia and with transportation when it's needed. A perpetually on-call driver would be particularly wonderful. (This and #2 may well be indicative of my desire to have more money than I know what to do with.)

4) Health. I want all my health problems to go away. No fibromyalgia, no allergies, no asthma, no anxiety, no anything else that makes life so hard.

5) One copy of every book in the world and time and linguistic ability to read them all (or at least try to read. I'm sure many of them are dreadful or not to my taste).

6) Effortless teleportation. Travel is expensive and time consuming and devours spoons faster than just about anything else that I might want to do. I want to be able to go where I want or need to go without needing the time, money and spoons. There are many people I'd like to be able to visit for an hour or two or a day or two and many places that I'd love to see.

ETA: This is the list I gave Scott, too.
