If your guy is handy with such things at all... you may want to try JBWeld. It's easily found at Lowes or an Advanced Auto-type store. It's great for bonding metal to metal... and holds like nothing doing.

Just a thought, as a cheap, quick fix. (Last time I fixed something like this it lasted just fine for about two years. Time before that, it lasted more like three months. Both times, it was a different place in the item that broke... not the JBWelded spot.)
