Cross Country Kids is, so far as I know, only at Northside. The gym teacher organizes it with help from parent volunteers. The PTO puts up money for bottled water and (at least last year) t-shirts. The point is to work up to a long (5K?) run, and I think that's the point of Girls on the Run, as well, but I discarded the Girls on the Run flier after ascertaining that all the activities would require getting to other schools, so I can't be sure.
Cross Country Kids is extremely laid back, though, and whether or not to do the final run is up to the kids.
We have a wonderful gym teacher. I think he's the big reason why Delia loves gym instead of hating it the way I did.
