the_rckThe specialist says that my leg trouble is due to a muscle called the piriformis that goes across the back of my leg and is probably pressing on the sciatic nerve and all sorts of other things. It's common enough to be known as piriformis syndrome and therefore has standard treatment-- Physical therapy.
She also said that the 'arthritic deterioration' noted by the radiologist isn't much of anything and isn't actually in a place where it would affect my hip and/or leg. It's a teeny bone spur on part of my tailbone.
Unfortunately, the couch is a likely culprit. The clinician suggested that we get some heavy plywood to put under the cushions. I've already tried a hardcover book under the spot where I sit. It helps a little, but I can feel the edges through the cushion.
After the appointment, I took my friend M and her eighteen month old daughter out for lunch as a thank you for the transportation. It was good to be social, and the meal was cheaper than a cab would have been. I had vegetable tempura and a little bit of M's sushi (she had that and some yakisoba that she shared with her daughter). I feel quite nicely full.
I'm now waiting for the call from PT at the UM hospital so that we can schedule me to see somebody. I'm also trying to decide whether or not I'm up to working on household chores. The next couple of days promise to be insane, so I probably should, but I'd love a chance to rest, too.
