Nov. 2nd, 2009 09:17 amScott's job interview on Friday was both discouraging and encouraging. He won't get this job, but the interviewer expects more openings 'soon' and wants to 'keep the resume hot.' He also offered to help Scott learn the skills required for a job in his area (in Scott's copious free time) and said that, in a different economy, he'd hire Scott for this job and give him a year to get up to speed. Right now, there are enough qualified people looking for work that he can get someone who'll start out ready to go.
I was hoping for better, but Scott's at least cautiously optimistic that something will come of this. The unit is apparently staffed largely by people nearing retirement age. I pointed out that retiring in this economy is pretty unappealing, but I suppose someone might.
This is another area where I wish for a magic wand. I'd love to give Scott a job he enjoys or, at least, doesn't hate.
