I'm working on getting my nerve up to hike to the polling place. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to haul Cordelia along with me. The family with whom I was going to swap sitting has a kid with a high fever (since Friday), so we're on our own. I wish we voted at the school. It's much closer.

I'm determined to vote because there's a school millage up. If it fails, the schools will have to cut some pretty basic stuff. I've seen references to having either to cut all bus service for all schools or to cut all staff for gym, library, music, etc. Either would be crippling for the local schools and awful for the kids.

I'm relatively neutral on the other two ballot proposals. Both have to do with the city charter requiring that certain bits of information be published in the newspaper. The city council wants the option of just posting that information on the city website and to have the authority to decide how that information should be publicized. I can see the potential for abuse in letting the city council decide where-- and if-- information gets out. On the other hand, the local newspaper is effectively gone. There's an online version of some sort now.

There have been lots of robo-calls in opposition to the city charter changes. I've found myself wondering who on earth cares enough to spend money that way. I've also gotten robo-calls opposing the millage and one real person call in support of it.

I was really confused for a minute before I remembered that my state is weird and does all mail in ballots. No polling lines for us. :D I hope you manage to get down there, though. It does seem like the school issue at least is a pretty big deal.

I read that the (incredibly annoying) robo-calls were paid for by the Michigan Newspaper Assocation:
