The modifications we've made to our current couch are helping my leg a bit but are giving me back trouble. This has led us to conclude that we really have to replace the couch. We're working on clearing the basement enough to move this couch downstairs so that we can try to sell it. This Saturday is going to be dedicated to couch shopping. At least this time we have a better idea of what won't work.

This means that we'll be selling the current couch. Please, anybody local (or who knows folks local to Ann Arbor), ask around if anyone you know is looking. It's a black Tylosand sectional. We have four pieces, three long and one short, so that it corners to run along two walls. I can provide more exact dimensions if anybody's actually interested.

Scott and I haven't discussed price at all, partly because we haven't worked out how much we paid originally. The couch is a year old, and we're not sure what that equals in depreciation.

Feel free to pass on my e-mail address if you know someone who's interested. We want this thing gone quickly.

Good luck with selling it.

If you haven't already done so, you might want to post it on all of these:

I'm sorry that the sofa didn't work out. But I think you're making the right choice to get rid of it.

*hug*

I'm wondering if Ikea would be willing to help in any way, since the sofa is causing medical problems for you. If it's not something you'd be comfortable calling them about, I'd be willing to call on your behalf.

Well, I called them. I spent 10 minutes on hold before I reached a person. She said she was at a call center but that she could transfer me to a phone number for the Canton store, where they don't take incoming calls, but I could talk to phone mail and a manager would call me back. But when I reached that number the recording said that they would only call back people who have a case number. The recording said to call the original number to get a case number. I tried that and spent a few more minutes on hold, but then ran out of time. I'll try it again when I have more time available.

I tried calling them again. (Much less time on hold today -- yay!) The first person I talked to said No. So I asked to speak with a manager. She got someone named Tiffany, who says that *if* you showed up at the store with the sofa, a doctor's note, and the original receipt, then they might think about maybe giving some money back, or a store credit. I kept pressing her about how hard it would be to get the sofa back to the store and that I'd really want to know for sure ahead of time if there would be any credit or refund, but she wouldn't commit to it. She said that usually if there's a court order or a doctor's order, they'll generally act on it. But she didn't sound sure.

Sigh.

I've seen your living room. I think it would be kind of awkward and uncomfortable to have no couches in it, the way you prefer to use it, but I think it would be considerably worse to try to put two couches in it. If you're talking about 2 actual couches, (neither of them being ambitious tinkertoys and cushions that want to become couches when they grow up), it may not be possible.
