The new couch is here. I'm sitting on it and worrying that it won't help after all.

The seat is higher than I remember from the store. The cushion still feels comfortable. I'm not sure about sitting here and using my laptop. I may need a new strategy for that. I suppose I'll see.

I just made an appointment for Cordelia to get flu shots. It's for Friday at 4:30. Scott ought to be home by then. If he isn't, I don't know what we'll do. There's no way I can get her there by bus given her vehement opposition to shots (not to mention the weather). I picked the time with the idea that Scott would be available, so I hope he is.

Did you use a footstool to raise your feet a few inches, when you were working at a desk or nursing Cordelia? A lot of people your height seem to find them helpful.

A footrest of some sort would help. The main difficulty is the laptop table. I need to have it so close to the couch (and my feet) that nothing I've tried will fit. That's one reason the low to the ground Tylosand couch looked appealing at first-- I didn't need a footrest.

I'll have to consider methods of adapting.

Hm. I wonder if a taller table for the laptop would accomplish the same thing.

A taller table won't give more room for a foot rest. The problem has to do with (a) my feet not touching the floor and (b) my needing to pull the table to within easy reach. As long as the base of the table is right next to my feet, I'm going to have problems.

I see. I was thinking that maybe the problem with the IKEA sofa was its height in relation to the computer table.

I wonder if they make tables with leg space and a footrest. I haven't seen 'em like that, but I wonder if they exist.

Unfortunately, it was the way the cushions on the Tylosand compressed and tilted me toward the floor and the fact that the cushions, even when not compressed, were low to the ground that caused the problem. At least, that's our working theory. There's about a six inch height difference between most IKEA couches and most of the couches at Art Van. That's considerable.
