Scott is in Florida now. He flew out this afternoon. He had a transfer in North Carolina that he just barely managed to make. We did a video chat with him about eight o'clock. Delia cried after he signed off. She'd been fine up till then, but that was when it really sank in that he's not here and won't be here for days.

We already have two things we want that require long bus trips to get. The weather is so miserable that I'm going to see if we can do without. My brother doesn't need his birthday card right away. Stamps can wait. Orange juice would be nice, but I'm not sure it's worth going to the store after it. I suppose I'll see on Wednesday whether Delia has developed a full blown cold. If she has, it may be worth my while to make the trek to the store.

Saturday went pretty much as planned. Scott and Delia dropped me off at UCon about eleven-thirty. I sat and read and did word puzzles until a bit before two. Scott and Delia showed up with time to spare before the LARP started, so I could have gone to Delia's volleyball game after all.

Scott tells me that both volleyball teams were pretty awful. The other team was marginally less awful, so Delia's team lost. I suppose I'll see how it goes at this weekend's game. The volleyball coach has said she can give us a ride, so that's taken care of.

The LARP went pretty well. We had sixteen players for twenty characters which is a pretty good turnout. I've run games with as few as twelve players for twenty characters. Some of the plot threads didn't work out, so a couple of players were frustrated and not sure what to do. Unfortunately, I didn't have any good ideas as to what to do to help. I'm badly out of practice at running these things. We did have one strong player, [livejournal.com profile] presterjon, who kind of warped the game around his agenda through the force of his charisma and willpower.

Delia spent the afternoon running around with [livejournal.com profile] cherydactyl's younger daughter (the elder played in our LARP). I believe they went swimming.

After the LARP, we did a quick turn through the dealers room. I bought some 20 siders because the ones I have tend to role a lot of ones. Scott and Delia dropped me off at home and then went back to the con. Delia spent more time running around with her friend while Scott snagged a spot in a board game.

Sunday was given over to chores and errands, one thing after another. I actually made a list, and we checked off item after item. The only thing that didn't get done was buying stamps. Well, and Scott never made it back to UCon. He was hoping to, but there was no way to make it work.

The weather wasn't great this morning. The wind made it feel colder than what the thermometer was saying. It's supposed to be worse tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to that. The folks doing the door replacement called this evening. Instead of doing it Wednesday, they want to do it on Friday. The weather is supposed to be a bit better then.

If you need a ride or two, I'd be happy to oblige.

For finding items without rides: You can get stamps delivered to your door from usps.com . I recently got a flyer offering free delivery, though it looks like you may need to use the flyer to place the order in order to get free delivery. The one time I ordered stamps online, it cost $1 to deliver them to my house. And hallmark.com will let you select a card, personalize it, and pay to have it mailed for you, so maybe it's an option to send your brother's birthday card that way. It looks to me like it costs around $4, including postage.

I wish I'd seen you at UCon! I spotted Scott and Delia, and Cheryl's family (though not Cheryl herself) when we first arrived, but then I didn't see any of them again while we were there.

I was stunned by how many people I knew at UCon -- including quite a few who I hadn't seen in 15 years. I wanted to come upstairs and say Hi to you, but I knew Scott and Delia were expected to arrive after the start of the game, so I figured you were more than busy with the LARP and that it wouldn't be a good time for me to intrude. I'm glad the LARP went okay!

Did I ever tell you that we did an inspired-by-you LARP for Arlo's birthday party a few years ago? It was fun!!

Oh cool -- I found it! I'd be happy to e-mail it to you. Can you read document files in OpenOffice format, or LibreOffice format? The file extension is .odt . If not, I can save it in some other format -- just let me know what works for you.
