Friday was Cordelia's last day of school for the year. She's now officially a second grader. The day was relatively miserable because she cried a lot. She was crying when I picked her up after school. She cried all the way home and for about forty minutes after that. During the afternoon and evening, she cried whenever not distracted.
It all centered on one friend, a little boy from Korea who she's afraid won't be back in the fall. He might not be. His parents are probably grad students. When they finish up, the family will go. Cordelia's fear of this is drawing on the departure, last year, of a boy from China who she also considered a good friend (plus the departures of other children from grad school families in the middle of the year).
Cordelia says that this boy told her she was cute. She says she loves him and that his cheeks are very, very soft. We're trying to respond with a sense of humor about the whole thing. There's not much else to do.
Well, when we get back from Origins, I plan to have her write the boy a letter. That might help. Poor munchkin. At least Origins is distracting enough that there have been no further tears.
