Apr. 13th, 2011 09:52 amLast summer, they did work on the parking lot and sidewalk of Delia's school. I think a big part of the reason for the sidewalk work was to put in a big curb cut from the parking lot. Whatever the reason, I wish they'd used a different type of concrete. The stuff they used is very white and becomes blindingly so when the sun is bright. Wintertime grime eased the problem considerably, but it's back now. I have trouble seeing as I approach the building.
We've had a new crossing guard since January. The old one had to quit for health reasons. She was constantly sick and missed a lot of days. The new guy hasn't missed a day so far. I haven't tried talking to him (beyond a 'Good morning!' or 'Thank you!') yet. My impression is that English is not his first language, and being all bundled up against the cold isn't conducive to talking. I should try a conversation soon. It's good to know a little about the people who make the school run, and I'm trusting him with Delia's life twice a day.
