Jun. 4th, 2011 09:35 pmA couple of weeks ago, midway through, Delia demanded that Scott stop reading Voyage of the Dawn Treader. We're not sure why. In it's place, they've been reading Carl Sandburg's Rootabaga Stories. Our previous exposure to Rootabaga Stories came from a vinyl LP from my childhood on which Sandburg read seven or eight of the stories. His voice is soothing to the point of being soporific. My mother always used the album to get us to sleep (and I can tell that it worked because the stories at the end of each side are less familiar than those at the beginnings). We made a CD from the LP and used it to help Delia sleep. It hasn't gotten pulled out for a few years now, but it saw some heavy use when she was younger.
Scott says he'll go back to Voyage of the Dawn Treader after Rootabaga Stories. He thinks Delia simply needs something less intense for a while.
