Keeping Busy
Mar. 18th, 2002 03:50 pmI'm still showing LunarGeography an occasional Pretender episode. I'm trying to give her an idea of who the characters are and how they interact. My preference would be simply to start from the beginning and get her to watch all the episodes, but she's not willing to invest that sort of time at the moment. (I'm sure she's near to being hooked, though. Grin…)
I've taken some time to make a website for my character in Matt's Vampire game. I'd been talking about doing it for a while but hadn't gotten around to it. As usual, I did nothing fancy, plain text with a few links. I think Matt may find it easier to have that information online because he doesn't tend to print it out or to keep print outs if I give them to him.
That reminds me… I need to check with the U. Nobody's billed me for my continuing computer account. It should have been $10-$15 every month since December and hasn't been. I don't want my access to disappear suddenly. I've got all the stuff from my website backed up offline, but putting it back together would be a pain. Additionally, there's a student organization that wants my e-mail id, so I'm afraid I'd have to change that if I lose the account even temporarily.
I've gotten my first payment from the university. It doesn't cover everything they owe me because it doesn't include any repayment of my insurance payments, but it's a start. A portion was taken out for taxes, but hopefully I'll get that back come tax time next year. I was a little surprised because they sent me a check rather than depositing it in my account. I've had direct deposit for years, and the university normally has a policy against mailing out checks. If you don't have direct deposit, you normally have to go pick the check up. LunarGeography ran me out to the bank to get the check into our account on Friday. Scott had to work till 7pm, so I didn't want to wait for him to get home. I hadn't actually gone into a bank to make a deposit for years, so it was a strange experience. Given the size of the check, I was a little paranoid, noting the teller's name and appearance.
After we went to the bank, we went out to Joann's Fabrics. LunarGeography's taken up crocheting and wanted to get some all cotton yarn to try making some dishcloths. She has some very nice yarn that she wants to use to make an afghan, but she wants to play a little to get the hang of it first. I hadn't meant to buy anything, but I found some yarn that actually felt pleasant, so I picked that up and got some wooden knitting needles. I'm not a particularly skilled knitter, but once I'm started I can do something without any complications. I thought I'd try making a scarf. The only one I've got at present is hot pink which can be taken as evidence that I don't much care about appearance. If I produce something warm and moderately washable, I'll be happy. Actually, if it keeps my hands occupied during some of my role playing sessions, I'll be happy. I've been trying to find a way to stop myself from playing solitaire on my laptop. I want something to fiddle with, and knitting looks less rude than solitaire when I'm supposed to be paying full attention to my players and the story. Sadly, I can't knit for all that long at one time before my fingers stiffen and start to hurt. I hope that I'll be able to build up over time.
Matt let me use his paraffin bath for my left hand when the pain of overuse got to me during his Vampire game on Saturday. I covet that thing now. I'd wondered why he'd invested in one, but now that I've used it, I think I'm a convert. Sadly, I don't think I can find one that will work for the parts of my body I'd really love to use it on, hips and shoulders. I've talked to Scott though, and he's going to keep his eyes open for one on sale that might work for hands and feet. I end up taking baths in the winter sometimes just because my feet ache with the cold, and this might be a less wasteful option.
