We got up early on Easter in order to meet Scott's family at the church they went to when he was in high school (His parents live elsewhere now and normally attend church in their new community). I was pretty out of it because Matt's Vampire game had run late the night before so that I didn't get to bed until 2am. The church was quite crowded, and the service lasted about an hour. I found the sermon a bit odd (the minister kept talking about how important taking proper, respectful and loving care of corpses is important to civilized people. Since I'm much more concerned with hygenic care of such things, I was puzzled. I think I missed the point). This particular church has a tradition of ending the Easter service by inviting everybody to participate in singing The Hallelujah Chorus. Scott and I both participated which was great fun. I don't get to stretch my voice often, and I can't generally reach the really high notes without the support of other voices. I lost a few of the high notes anyway, but most everybody did.

The minister did relate an amusing anecdote. Apparently, he'd gone to the gym to work out on Good Friday. Afterward, he dressed in a suit so that he could go on to celebrate the normal services. One of the gym's employees looked surprised and asked if he was expected to work that day. The minister replied in the affirmative without explaining his profession. The gym employee then asked if the minister's employer knew what the day was. The minister again replied in the affirmative. The gym employee looked incredulous and demanded to know if the minister's employer fully understood the importance of Good Friday. "Oh, yes, he's painfully aware of it," the minister replied.

After the service, we went with Scott's parents and his sister's husband, son and in-laws (Suzanne was too sick to attend, and she kept the baby at home) to brunch. It was horribly expensive ($23 per person), especially given that I shouldn't have been eating much of anything. I pulled together my list of servings and ate most of what I could allocate for the day. I wanted more because of the price and because I was feeling terrible. When I'm low on sleep, my body aches, and the only substitute for sleep that helps at all is calories, either protein or refined sugar. I got out of there without bending things too badly in spite of a very tempting array of desserts (I did taste some). Eventually, we got out of there and went home.
