I've broken a thousand words on my Yuletide fic. I'm still not very happy with it. It has the requested characters, and they're interacting. I think-- I hope-- I have them reasonably in character. I'm just afraid that this will disappoint my recipient because this is ending up a very quiet story in which not much happens but conversation. I'm not sure how much longer the story will end up being. I need to tie up the current topic of conversation, and I need to cover one more topic.

Tuesday, I did my volunteer stint at the school library. For the second week in a row, there was a substitute teacher. I'm concerned because the Scholastic book fair is supposed to be next week, and, so far as I can tell, the librarian has done nothing to prepare for it. She needs parent volunteers for the set up, which should be this weekend. She needs parent volunteers to man the cash register while the sale is open. She needs to tell families that the sale is happening and when it will be open for parents to buy. So far, there's been nothing coming home about any of that. I know she has two schools to juggle and has never done a book fair before, but this shouldn't be that hard. I've got my fingers crossed that this will work out anyway.

Tuesday evening, I used some of our leftover turkey to make turkey turnovers. They're one of Scott's favorite foods, and he usually only get them once a year (right after New Year's Eve), so he was pleased to get some now. It was a little weird making them with breast meat. I'm used to using mostly dark meat, all the scraps and bits and pieces too small to make a sandwich with.

Yesterday, I lay down for a little while in the morning. I was almost asleep when someone rang the bell and knocked on the door. It was a woman from the gas company wanting to install a new meter. I didn't recall getting any notice about such a thing (Scott says we got something weeks ago), but yesterday was as good a time as any for it, so I let her in. I probably should have called the gas company to make sure she was for real. I took her down to the basement and stayed with her while she installed the new meter. She managed it without even shifting the stuff stored in the closet where the meter is. I was impressed.

Even though it's getting dark early, Cordelia still wants time to play outside. I've compromised by letting her go out until six. It's usually five by the time she finishes her homework, and I don't want to tell her that she can't go out at all, but I hate letting her out in the dark. Fortunately, she's good about coming home on time now that we've gotten her a watch.

If I were you, I'd tell the librarian what needs to be done. That's specialized knowledge -- you have it, and apparently she doesn't. She's not going to wake up tomorrow having miraculously acquired it unless someone says something.
