Scott brought home Nutella tonight. He thought it would make a good way to test me on hazelnuts. I'd been thinking about trying another nut, but hadn't come up with a good way to do it. Most of the mixed nuts I saw at the grocery store last time we were there were in the shell, and we don't have nutcrackers (that can be remedied, but we'd be unlikely to use them much). I had some Nutella on wheat thins, and so far, I'm fine.

We tested walnuts in a very small amount a week or two back, and I very definitely got an itchy feeling in my mouth and throat. It wasn't dreadful, but it was certainly there.

We're buying almonds regularly now. The cheapest way to get them is raw. I don't like how they taste that way, but fortunately, roasting them is really simple. It takes a cookie sheet, the oven and fifteen minutes. They're not quite as tasty as some of the fancy flavored almonds, but they're quite good enough for when I need a high protein snack.

I'll start this comment with the caveat that I heard this on QI, but if you're testing for nut sensitivities, and someone you're intimate with eats brazil nuts, the allergens in them can be transmitted through bodily fluids. The show in particular was talking about seminal fluid, but I'm assuming it would be there in saliva and stuff as well.

Everyone seems to know that peanuts can linger and set off people who are super sensitive hours after another person has eaten them, but I didn't know that about brazils before seeing that.

I doubt we'll be testing Brazil nuts. I don't like them, and neither does Scott. It doesn't seem worth buying something we both think is nasty just to see whether or not I can eat it.
