May. 25th, 2002 02:31 pmWednesday afternoon, LunarGeography and I worked on getting the finished part of the basement clean enough to be usable. I swept and mopped. She dusted and stowed things in the closet and in the unfinished part of the basement. We kept going until I was physically exhausted. Then she and Scott bullied me into eating so that I'd be awake enough to run the Amber game that evening.
I finally managed some important transitions in the game. I've been building up to a war and finally got it going. Now I just have to decide how it ends. I'm taking the characters in some dark directions. I'm forcing them to make decisions about survival and ethics and what really matters to them.
Thursday morning, I had my annual gynecology exam. My primary care physician works part time in the gynecology clinic, so I saw her. I explained the vision difficulties I have and pushed for a referral to a neurologist. She hesitated a little, pointing out that they probably couldn't help me, but gave in fairly quickly when I explained that my real expectation is simply to know what's going on. I may not get that. I hope to, but realistically…
Thursday afternoon, LunarGeography came over for more cleaning. We spent still more time on the basement. Then I worked on the dishes and some general tidying while she cleaned the bathroom (not including the shower enclosure). By the time all of that was done, the smell of chemicals in the house was so strong that I was having trouble breathing, so we went outside and wandered around the yard for a bit.
The black raspberries seem to have survived my father-in-law's pruning after all. I don't think we'll get any fruit this year, though. I'm nearly certain of it, in fact. The day lilies we planted on the side of the house have sprouted, but they're not doing all that well. They're growing very slowly compared to the others near the back porch (which get less sun and more water). I need to try to get out there with the hose more often.
LunarGeography wants to see if she can transplant some of our poppies to her yard. She can't take many because she lives in a townhouse apartment with a small square patio-like yard. Not much of it gets a lot of sun, and the soil's not very good (mostly clay). She's planted a lot of things and is waiting to see what will take. She's offered me some squash and sunflower seedlings that I think I'll take. I can't put them in my first choice location because Scott and his brother-in-law are supposed to powerwash and repaint the garage this summer, but… There are other places I can plant them.
