Friday, Laura came over to help me put together an image for my character in the Amber PBEM game. I had no clue how to make Photoshop do what I needed, and she was pleased to share her expertise. I think it came out pretty well. I haven't gotten any feedback from the game master about it yet, but it will save me from having to try to describe what the character looks like over and over again. I must confess that I more or less went out and found a picture I liked and then based my verbal description on it rather than going the other way around.

In the evening, we went to Michelle and Tony's wedding reception (they had a private, family only ceremony). I wore a long blue dress (sort of a tie-dye pattern of blues) with a light brown belt. The belt didn't come with the dress, but I don't feel at all comfortable without a belt when wearing something that doesn't have a waist. LunarGeography had suggested a scarf for a sash, but all I had was a white, purple and gold thing my in-laws brought me from Italy a few years ago. Not a chance. I dug out my limited supply of makeup (blush and eyeshadow that I purchased something like 15 years ago. I then discovered that the blush was just the right color for me in terms of eyeshadow. Life's funny that way) and found some jewelry that matched the dress. Scott wore his dress pants because they were what was clean (and he and I had a discussion about how guys do not wear "blouses" even though, by the definitions I know, the shirt he put on was a blouse).

They'd rented a nice space, a barn that had been finished on the inside and done up for events. They drafted a couple of friends to pick up veggie and deli trays, provided cookies, cubed cheese, crackers and the like and had those same friends prepare some simple pasta dishes. They didn't serve alcohol (although the folks putting the food together apparently brought some wine for themselves).

Tony's martial arts studio did a lion dance about half an hour into the party. It was fun to watch but did not make my headache (left over from Thursday night and becoming steadily worse as the evening went on) any better. Drums, cymbals and the like do nothing but aggravate. (The headache and my general exhaustion led me to drop my diet for the evening. I knew I'd need the calories in order to remain upright. Sadly, I was right. Fortunately, that let me stay up long enough that when I went home I was actually tired enough to sleep well.)

We got to see three friends from our undergraduate days, all former housemates of Scott's. Two of them (Scott & Mary) are married to each other and living in Maryland while the third (Jim) lives alone in Texas. The last time we saw any of them was at the funeral for Jim's mother which wasn't really a good social occasion. It was funny how we were comfortable with them again pretty much immediately. I suppose some friendships are like that.
