Bother. There’s a minor, recurring OC in the Amber stuff I’ve been writing, and I’ve spelled her name something like three different ways. I need to settle on one and then go edit all the documents on AO3 for consistency. It’s relatively trivial, but it annoys me at the stone in the shoe level. None of my readers have mentioned it. I don’t know if it’s that they haven’t noticed or if it’s that they think it’s not important or if they think pointing it out would be rude/might upset me.

That’s 64000 words of posted fic and another 4000 to 6000 unposted. Bah.

I hate when that happens. Probably no else one has noticed but it will drive you crazy until you fix it.

I hope the spellings are similar enough you can CTRL+F through everything to check.

I think the worst I had was a big bang where at least two of the cast's names evolved over the course of the story and one of them so radically that I couldn't just use Find/Replace to fix it all.

Yikes, that does make it hard. I don't think most programs would support that kind of wildcard search, either.

Since it's already addressed, this comment is not helpful here - but in this case, I'd have standardized on 'Sybil' unless there's a strong reason to use one of the other two, only because the other two can both be found with a case-sensitive search on 'Sib'.

That would bother me something fierce, too.

Shouldn't it be relatively simple to "find and replace"?
