An update on the Comcast phone call thing-- We got a call from a Comcast technician who said he was near our house for our scheduled install. I pointed out that we had no such appointment. He read off the address he was heading for, and I said it wasn't ours. He said something on the order of, "Ah. Wrong number. Sorry about that," and hung up. We got three or four robo calls from Comcast after that trying to get us to go to the door to let him in (when he wasn't at our door) and to reschedule the appointment (which wasn't for our address).
So it probably actually was Comcast. Just them being incompetent.
