Scott found out yesterday that he'll have a four day weekend. There was a brief chance that he'd have to work 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. tomorrow (which counts as part of Wednesday for their bookkeeping because third shift starts at 11 p.m.), but someone else on first shift got stuck with it because they'd taken part of a day on Monday. Scott did a good news bad news thing with me on the phone and then admitted he had no bad news. I told him he was lucky he was too far away for me to throw something at him.

Scott's brother and his family are flying in on Christmas Day. I don't know what time, and I don't know whether they're going to rent a car or going to expect us to ferry them around. The difficulty is that none of the local family has a car big enough for their own family and the four members of Scott's brother's family at the same time. In good traffic, it's about 50 minutes from Scott's sister's house to the airport. If their plane comes in after about 10 a.m., that's where we're all likely to be. Our house is closer to the airport, but getting them would mean needing two trips to get everyone up to Scott's sister's house.

(Interestingly, getting from Scott's parents' house to the airport only takes 8 minutes longer than getting there from Scott's sister's house. In spite of it taking about 25 minutes longer for us to get to Fenton than it does to get to Howell. I guess it's different highway connections.)

They haven't generally rented a car for these trips, but they've also never arrived on Christmas Day before. I expect that the airfares were considerably cheaper. The last we'd heard, they were planning to travel on the 22nd. Maybe our SIL ended up with an unexpected shift? She's a surgeon. If we were closer in, I'd think it was some sort of urgent-- but not emergency-- surgery, but this long before, well, something urgent wouldn't normally be scheduled more than a month out. Usually, any vacation time she has is pretty rigidly scheduled.

They'll be going back to Seattle on the 30th, so they'll be around during all three days that Scott has off between Christmas and New Year.

My aunt says, on Facebook, that the folks at the hospital are encouraging people to visit my uncle but that my uncle is on clear liquids only today in preparations for testing tomorrow and would rather wait until after those tests for visitors.

I may post again later today because I know there are things I meant to write about but have forgotten.
