Nov. 27th, 2017 04:07 pmYesterday, at about 3:00 in the afternoon, I reached the point of exhaustion where I could no longer focus enough to listen to an audiobook. I ended up putting a pillow over my head and trying to sleep. I didn't quite manage to sleep, but I felt a little more functional when I got up around 5:30. I think that may have been more because I realized that my headache was at least half due to not having had enough water that afternoon. Drinking a lot of water in a short time is not conducive to going back to bed, so I stayed up until about 9:30.
I'm frustrated over the sleep issue because, even during break, I didn't get more than six hours any given night. I'd wake up early and not be able to sleep again. My body seems to want to sleep at about 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. which is one of the times when I absolutely can't do it because of medication and food scheduling. I need to be up for at least three hours after I eat and two after I have much in the way of water. The length of time I need to go without eating tends to increase the longer it's been since my 5 a.m. medications, so I'm not sure that sleeping then and getting up for a few hours to do the things I'd normally do then will work. I need to take my thyroid medicine at least two hours after my last meal and at least half an hour before my bedtime medications.
Plus, if I sleep from, say 4:00 to 9:00, I won't get any time with Scott and Cordelia.
Cordelia had three friends over yesterday. They mashed potatoes and made noodles from Scott's mother's recipe and stuffing from my recipe. They tried to make an apple crisp, but they assumed that steel cut oats were a reasonable substitute for rolled oats, so that was kind of marginal as an edible item. There was a lot of shrieking and pounding footsteps and slamming doors at various points in the afternoon.
Scott stayed in the living room while they were in the kitchen and in the dining room when they were in the living room. I just stayed in the bedroom.
We're looking into getting Cordelia a new(ish) laptop. Her current one can't play the games she's interested in and, like mine, is old enough that most of the software no longer updates.
At this point, the plan is to move my hard drive into her old machine because there's something wrong with my laptop that's making it unable to run on the battery. All the checks claim that the battery is there and charged and in 'normal' condition, but I will suddenly lose power when the battery is at about 95% charge. The battery will still be at 95% charge when I plug it in and restart everything (and all the checks we've run say that it's at 95% charge). I haven't lost any data yet, but I worry that I will. Scott thinks that it's just that this machine was built in 2008 and that some part we can't see is dying. It's not related to jostling the laptop as it happens whether I'm carrying it or have it sitting on a solid surface. Over the last six months, the point at which the laptop gives up and powers off has changed. It started around 19%, and, well, here we are.
I broke our kitchen paper towel roll holder today. It was a plastic thing, vertical, in a hideous shade of pale pink, that was already in the kitchen when we bought the place in 1996, so I don't feel as bad about it as I might. It's another damned thing to deal with, but the old one was really ugly. Scott's comment was, "Good riddance!"

Date: 2017-11-28 01:37 pm (UTC)The laptop's behavior sounded familiar, but I didn't remember what the solution was, so I did some Googling. This thread has several ideas, though I don't know if any of them will help:
