Title: Neither Angry Nor Kind
Fandom: Chronicles of Amber - Roger Zelazny
Rating: T
Length: 5810 words
Characters: Vialle, Oberon, the Unicorn, Dalt
Tags: Patricide, Referenced murder, Referenced infanticide, Transformation, Cosmology, Background Sibling Incest, Rewriting the universe, Canonical Character Death, Minor Character Death
Notes: Contains vomiting. It's not extremely graphic, but it's more than just a mention.
Part 3 of a series I started for Yuletide 2016, Vialle, Daughter of Oberon. There will likely be one more story in the arc.
This is one that I look at a little dubiously and say, "Well, nothing in canon actually contradicts it!" And then I remember the Pattern's reaction to blood in the Merlin books; that part wouldn't fit. So, apart from Dalt, assume I'm ignoring the Merlin books entirely.
Summary: Vialle wasn't sure why she wanted to be there. No, she knew. She wanted to be sure that Oberon did die. She was certain he hadn't lied when he said the repair would take immense power and energy. There might never be a better chance to kill him.
Neither Angry Nor Kind on AO3.
Tittle: Skies Without Sun
Fandom: Punic Wars RPF
Rating: T
Length: 976 words
Characters: Scipio Africanus, Hannibal Barca
Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, First Meetings, Blindness, Head Injury
Notes: So... I've never written RPF before. I researched and wrote this in a five hour period yesterday morning, and I'm pretty sure there are anachronisms and historical errors that people who have actually studied the period will catch. I've read a bit on the era before, but many details... Can it be in one ear and out the other if I'm reading text?
The head injury may or may not be plausible. I searched a bit and found a blog that advertised itself as by an MD who was willing to answer medical questions for writers. I didn't dig deeper because I was afraid of running out of ability to think altogether. I have the link in my draft document if anybody's interested.
The story wanted to get longer (which could mean anything over 10K words). While I was researching, I found a site referencing something Scipio did right after Cannae. My assumption is that, historically speaking, he went in with backup, but the description makes it sound as if he went in and single-handedly forced some would be deserters to swear that they would never desert Rome. My reaction was, "Charging in alone would not end well." Then I thought about what I could do with that.
Summary: Waking up unable to see wasn't likely to be the worst part of Scipio's day.
Skies Without Sun on AO3.
Tittle: Except What Happens at Night
Fandom: The Pretender (TV)
Rating: M
Length: 800 words
Characters: Jarod/Miss Parker
Tags: Post "Island of the Haunted"
Notes: I wrote this very rapidly while very, very tired. It was for Fandom Stocking, so I had a tight deadline, and the first two approaches I tried hadn't worked.
I'm still trying to come up with tags for this one, but I guess it comes down to-- Who else have they got?
The rating is mostly me reacting to how trapped and how fucked up the characters are rather than being for anything they say or do. There's a lot of stuff that the show hinted at and then pretended wasn't actually there.
Summary: The first time was after her father died.
