I lost a lot of time yesterday because I kept forgetting how much my ability to think is tethered to having heat on my shoulders. I tried to sit in the living room for most of the afternoon so that I could watch some library DVDs and failed to realize that an hour without the heating pad is too long.

I suppose I should be glad it's January rather than July. I'd never manage to use the damned thing if it were actually hot in here.

I managed to call the plumber yesterday only to have him say that he doesn't do kitchen drains. I have another number to call, but it was 4:58 on Friday. I'm pretty sure that, for a non-emergency, I wouldn't get a call back until Monday anyway, so I haven't called yet.

Today, instead, I ran a load of laundry and had Cordelia help me hand wash some dishes (so that I could control how much went down the kitchen drain at any one time). Scott had to work today, and we ended up getting pizza for dinner.

Most of my sitting around time today has been given over to editing and expanding an already quite long story. It's over 12K words now, and I wouldn't be surprised to hit 15K before I'm done.

It really is.

Scott followed some online instructions in his attempts to clear the pipes. Yesterday, he said he'd done everything but one last thing-- 'Knowing when to give up and call an expert.' I think that makes him feel better about paying a plumber.
