I've cracked 800 words on the Worldbuilding Exchange story, but Gdocs counts the html tags, so I need to subtract somewhere between 12 and 20 words for the transition to AO3.

And the damned thing needs to hit 1000 words. I keep stopping dead and having no idea at all what comes next. That's not usually a problem I have. I just spew words onto the page and they make a pattern that surrounds my starting point. The next word is usually obvious from the previous. When it isn't, I need to take time. I just haven't got time on this right now.

I shouldn't have banged my head against the wall of the story I wanted to write but couldn't compress into something doable.

Ugh, that sucks. Best of luck hunting down ~200 more words and pinning them to the page!

You've got this! 220 words is doable. Can you add some additional description in here and there (aka padding) and/or add a little extra to the dialogue to get the 20 words?

Sadly, there is no dialogue. This is stream of consciousness. I have a lot of hyphenated things that my POV character considers single concepts. I'll remove those if I have to, and that would get me at least a third of the way there.

Maybe you can italicize them instead of hyphenating if you still want to have the feel of them being connected.
