Mar. 22nd, 2018 08:04 amI'm still writing this dratted story. I have no clue where it's going, so it may not end up going anywhere at all.
I've hit 100K words for 2018 so far. I'm trying to decide what a reasonable goal is for the entire year. I started out with 100K as my goal on the theory that it ought to be achievable. Looks like I was right. I just didn't expect to get anywhere near it for months yet. Right now, I'm thinking that I just double the goal because there's a lot of the year left in front of me. I won't go further than that because other things may come up.
I'm looking at a couple of exchanges that are doing nominations and feeling tempted and then realizing that I'll likely have more fun just treating or just writing whatever comes to mind in the moment rather than trying to fulfill an assignment.
We had a session of Scott's Firefly game last night. The session was at least half the six of us talking about completely unrelated things and laughing a lot. There were a lot of snacks which is hard for me because the session starts after the point when I stop eating for the day.
I was awake for most of the session, but Scott didn't get around to asking what my character was doing until after 9:00. By then, I was starting to not be able to think because it was near bedtime and three hours since I'd had anything but water. Our ship has landed on a colony world where we're trying to help out. My character has a lot of time at loose ends because she is, officially, the ship's cook rather than anything with a clear dirtside role (others are captain, doctor, shepherd (minister), and engineer), so the colonists aren't approaching her with specific tasks.
She's got a background in espionage, though, so the thing that makes sense for her to do is wandering around and chatting with people to figure out who's who and where they came from and why. She's got some skill specializations for analyzing social networks and political factions/connections and for noticing anomalous things, so this could be a good way for Scott to feed the group some details that he'd have trouble throwing our way otherwise.
I need to do a few things to get ready for the cleaning lady this afternoon. I still haven't made those phone calls, and I only made a little progress on that beta read. I need to go back to working on the exchange fic that's due in mid-April because it's completely do-able but only if I actually throw words at it regularly. My guess is that it will end up being 3-5K words, but I've been wrong before.
