Scott's sister is at St Joe's, in the ER. Her husband expects that they're going to admit her. Scott and I will probably head over there as soon as he gets home.

She's been having 'non-violent seizures.' She's never had seizures before, so this is worrying. I'm also concerned that she's down here instead of closer to home. I don't know whether it's a question of her needing more specialized care or if it's an insurance thing.

Scott's parents are out of state at the moment for a Gideon's conference in Louisiana. Scott's sister's kids are both older than Cordelia, so care for them isn't a concern. Her in-laws are in Brighton (which is between here and where she lives), and her SIL is in Ann Arbor.

Maybe Scott's sister being down here makes sense given that Scott and I and her SIL are local. Just only if they think she'll be here for a while.

(I googled "non-violent seizures" because I have a kid with epilepsy and I've never heard of them, so I was curious. Google didn't seem to know what they were either, so it suggested "non-epileptic seizures" as a possible alternative. Non-epileptic seizures are seizures that are caused by other things than epilepsy, for example such as having a high fever.)

My suspicion is that they mean 'absence seizures' but didn't quite say that. Those are more like what LT had when we were in college, the things she called 'time slips' when she just wasn't there for a few seconds or longer but didn't move.

Absence seizures seem like a thing that could connect with serious blood loss affecting the brain.

I'm hoping that, if they have to move her, it will be to UM rather than to Henry Ford. UM still leaves her near a family support structure. Henry Ford is a longer trip for her in-laws and parents than coming to Ann Arbor is and we don't have local family close enough for taking forty minutes to get a shower and some coffee.
