I slept badly last night and woke about 6 a.m. I couldn't get back to sleep after that in spite of being exhausted. I hurt, generally, and my hands kept starting to go numb. (The OT says that that's referred sensation from overly tight muscles in my neck. I've asked for advice on how to loosen those, but I haven't gotten anything yet.)

I managed to get my DC Bang story moving again. I knew that there had to be a complication at this point in the plot. I knew what would happen, but I was stuck on why it would happen and couldn't get around explaining it. I think I've got something that will work for a first draft.

My other difficulty was figuring out which characters I want to add to the mix and how to make them fit. I'm less constrained there because canon has done so very, very many weird things and because this is an AU with 10-15 years of the world being utterly different. Since I'm making the new characters all younger than that, their canonical backstories are largely going out the window which will result in them being different from the various canonical versions.

I also have to decide how many characters to add. I set a maximum number in an earlier story, just by saying how many people they could feed, but the things I've just set up would let me get away with a smaller number (or a larger) and with making things a little more difficult/uncertain for the characters (and possibly more interesting) than I'd expected. I'd like a few more supporting characters, though, because the current group is overwhelmingly male.

Today's project has been figuring out the characters and narrowing down titles for the story.

I'm still hammering away at the Iddy Iddy Bang Bang story. I have four chapters that work reasonably well, but the second chapter, chronologically is both incomplete and kind of broken. I need to yank out parts of it and rejigger things considerably. I'm not sure yet how to make that work because I think that what I end up doing with this will mean making changes to the current last chapter.

I'll probably have to take the current last chapter and make it a separate story. I like it. It makes sense for the characters involved. It just doesn't make sense for the characters involved if things go the way I expect them to in the second chapter which also makes sense for the-- completely different sub-set of-- characters involved. Writing things out of order is a terrible idea for me most of the time, and this is a classic example of why. In this case, I wrote chapter 3 first, then chapter 1, then chapter 5, then started chapter 2, then wrote chapter 4. It's unbalanced because chapters 4 and 5 are the same POV character but don't make sense to combine.

There's also a character who doesn't have a POV section and who really ought to. I just can't figure out an angle for her.
