Sep. 9th, 2018 04:08 pmWe tried using Kroger's order for pickup service yesterday. I tested how they deal with frozens by ordering some bean and cheese burritos which I figured would refreeze just fine and thought would be small enough to show signs if they'd sat out for very long. The frozens were bagged separately, in a paper bag with a printed label. I think they're keeping that stuff in some sort of separate, cold storage.
I asked for two pounds of sweet potatoes on the theory that those would be produce options that would be hard to screw up. I got two sweet potatoes, the biggest and fattest I've ever seen. I cooked them in our pressure cooker, adding about 15 minutes to the normal cooking time. Then I cut them into three pieces each so that I could wedge those pieces into storage containers. They were still a little underdone. I think I won't order those again because I prefer long and thin sweet potatoes to short and fat ones.
I missed checking the 'no substitutions' box, so we ended up with some. I don't like the fact that there's no way to mark specific items as no substitutions. We're going to have to return a couple of things because, while they're technically much the same, they've got trace ingredients that will make me and Scott both sick. Specifically, I ordered some chicken apple sausages that I can eat but Scott can't due to pork casings. We got a different brand that Scott also can't eat (due to collagen casings) and that I can't eat due to nitrates/nitrites.
The substituted bagels are fine, but bread products sometimes have artificial sweeteners or inulin, both of which can make me sick. They told us that the rye bread for Scott was a substitution, but they gave us what I thought I was ordering which was the only option for rye bread under that brand, so I have no idea on that one.
The next thing I plan to do is to try signing up to run an event at UCon. My last attempt to do that seems to have gotten eaten, so I'm going to try a different browser. There are apparently a lot of people running Sentinels of the Multiverse already, so I'm going to run Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters which is a co-op board gave with multiple levels of difficulty that is kid-friendly.
I'm also thinking that I'll also run an RPG based on a single session adventure from Scott's Firefly game. I just have to pick a system under which to run and then create some characters for it. I don't want to use the system Scott's campaign does because I find it non-intuitive and too complicated. I want something where I can eyeball die rolls and have a solid feel for how high/low they are and then adapt my story to that.
