Jun. 4th, 2013 10:05 amI ended up sleeping most of Monday because I'd slept badly Saturday and Sunday nights. I lay down about 9:30, thinking that I'd just rest for a little bit, and woke about 1:45. It's a good thing I didn't have anything I absolutely had to be up in time for. Of course, if there had been, I probably would have remembered to set the alarm on my cell phone.
Scott had to be ready to go in to work early this morning, so he went to bed early (though not as early as he would have if he'd thought it was certain they'd need him). Luckily, they didn't need him to come in at 3:00, so he got a little bit of extra sleep.
All of this overtime means that Scott and I are falling way behind on the TV we watch. We usually have about an hour and a half to watch each night, assuming Cordelia goes to bed on time and Scott doesn't have to go in early the next day. Right now, we're recording The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Warehouse 13 and Mythbusters. We also have a Netflix DVD waiting for us to get around to it. I don't know when we're going to catch up.
Cordelia has decided that she's interested in watching Doctor Who. I think this is because her cousin is an ardent fan. Scott decided to start her off at the beginning of the new series since Netflix has it streaming. She did okay through the first two episodes, but the third episode, with Charles Dickens and the walking dead, freaked her out, and we didn't finish it. I don't know if she'll want to go back and finish that one, if she'll want to try episode four instead, or if she'll just give up on Doctor Who. I suspect that some old Who would be more her speed.
This morning, Cordelia's school had a thank you breakfast for parent volunteers. They do that every year, around this time. This year, I didn't get an invitation addressed to me specifically. They try to give out personal invitations, but they missed me this year. I only found out about the breakfast when the principal asked me if I was coming. She was a bit put out to hear that I hadn't actually been invited.
At any rate, I went. I couldn't eat the egg dishes (eggs are a migraine trigger for me, big time), but I had some fruit and coffee cake. I was startled to discover that the coffee cake had nuts on it. The school is supposed to be nut free. I couldn't tell if these were walnuts or pecans-- I can have pecans but can't have walnuts-- so I picked the nuts off. I always feel a bit strange at these gatherings because I only vaguely know any of the other parents. It means I don't talk to anyone.
I did win the door prize, a basket of candy, chips and microwave popcorn. Scott and Cordelia can share the bag of snickers bars (I can't have peanuts), but I think I'll keep the rest of it for myself. Well, I may give Scott the popcorn. He loves popcorn, and I'm only so-so on it.
I'm inching along on the Weiss Kreuz Reverse Fest story. I spent some time last night reviewing a bit more of canon, and I wrote another couple of sentences. I'm not sure I started the story in the right place. I suppose time will tell on that one.

Date: 2013-06-04 08:29 pm (UTC)It's hard because we want to share the things we watch with Cordelia when she's ready for them, but she hasn't previously been willing to try anything. Her parents liking a show guarantees she won't even glance at it (and will object strenuously to it being on when she's around).
