Fic Announcement (not Yuletide)
Jan. 1st, 2020 12:08 amTitle: Not Revelation but Recognition
Fandom: Chronicles of Amber - Roger Zelazny/Dragaera - Steven Brust
Rating: T
Length: 6526 words
Characters/Pairings: Dara, Despil, Morrolan
Tags: Crossover, Parent-Child Relationship, Magical Theory, Grief/Mourning, Cosmology, Shapeshifting, Intrigue
Notes: I wrote this for my Fandom Trumps Hate 2019 auction winner. I went right down to the wire on it, but I didn't really get the story idea to move until after I wrote a pinch hit (for the same recipient) focused on Dara. I'm considering this to be in the same continuity as that story but haven't made it a series.
Summary: When I stood at the edge of the Lesser Sea of Chaos, I knew I'd been wrong about what had kept Despil in Dragaera. Za hadn't found something simply intriguing; za had found a place where the Abyss bubbled up through reality and then... sat there, doing nothing much at all. Since the Abyss constantly erodes the edges of the Courts of Chaos, held back only by active use of the Logrus, having the raw stuff of chaos directly touching ordered matter without a buffer should have meant that the Shadow's lifespan could be measured in minutes.
Whatever the buffer was here, it wasn't the Logrus.
Story on AO3.
