I need to decide today-- There are two fic exchanges that I could do in July. I know myself well enough to know that I can't possibly do both. I'd end up finishing neither.

The first exchange is Parallels. It's an exchange for rare Asian fandoms. I did it last year and enjoyed it. This year, though, looking at the nominated fandoms, there aren't a lot that I'm really enthusiastic about writing, and most of those are things I nominated that probably nobody else would request. I've made a list of the fandoms I could write and the characters I'm willing to offer. I just have to make up my mind.

The second exchange is the Narnia Fic Exchange. I hesitate on this one because I'm not sure how many Narnia fics I've got in me. I've written two (one of them a crossover). I think I could do it. I think I might enjoy doing it. Writing for this exchange has the advantage, potentially, of putting me one step closer to having a second fandom for Remix (I need four more 1000 word stories to qualify).

Anybody have an opinion as to which I should do? Sign ups close soon, so I have to make up my mind quickly.

Saturday, Scott's family had their annual Father's Day gathering. I made bread (we have a bread machine) and a rhubarb pie. Both came out well. The men went golfing and played nine holes. It used to be just the dads going, but our nephew has joined them the last couple of years.

I tried to do some writing while the guys were gone, but I was distracted by the requirements of being social. Our nephew was really curious when he saw me with a notebook. I evaded the questions because I didn't really want to go into details with all the relatives around. He's the most likely one to want to actually read what I write, and I'm sure it will come up again as the years go by.

Scott had to work on Sunday. Delia had a friend come over for about three hours. Delia had softball practice scheduled at six, but we skipped it so that we could take Scott out for dinner. We went to Red Lobster (and this time, Scott didn't get sick!). Delia and I gave Scott two books and three Star Wars ice cube trays/chocolate molds (they're silicone and fine for heat or cold).

Yesterday was Delia's first softball game. It lasted about two hours and had five or six innings (I lost track). The coach's wife said that the games run up to seven innings, so I think there's also a time limit. I don't know what that time limit is-- The coaches and referee had the girls on both teams vote as to whether they wanted one more inning, and all the girls wanted to keep playing.

Delia's team was definitely still learning the game. There were a lot of points when the girls simply didn't know what they were supposed to do. The girls on the other team seemed to know how to play and scored a lot more runs than Delia's team did.

I found the game really tedious. I also have issues with softball/baseball. I found playing those sports really traumatic in middle and high school because I couldn't see the ball, and I can't watch without feeling embarrassed and humiliated every time someone makes a mistake or fails to do what they're trying to do. I hope I'll get over it because there are six more games this season (plus three that we'll miss while we're on vacation). My plan is to take a notebook with me next time. Goodness knows I need the writing time.

This morning, Scott's parents came down. Scott's father worked on finishing taking apart the ramp. He had a different screwdriver head, and this one apparently pulled the screws right out, so he finished a lot more quickly than he expected. He did an assortment of other small tasks around the yard, too.

Scott's mother took Delia shopping. Delia likes shopping, so she was really looking forward to it. She also loves time spent alone with her grandmother (and rarely gets it because she's not willing to do overnights with her grandparents). Delia came home with two new skirts with attached shorts and four or five new shirts. They apparently went to TJ Maxx and to a resale shop.

After the chores and shopping were done, the four of us went to Applebee's for lunch. I felt a bit guilty, enjoying the food, the company and the air conditioning, knowing that Scott was likely having a miserable day at work. His work is always really humid and at least ten degrees hotter than whatever it's like outside, and it was in the 90s today. It being Tuesday, I knew he was probably pulling carts which is the physically most demanding task he can be assigned.
