Scott's father went in for surgery at seven o'clock this morning. From what I gather the plan was to work as long as his body could tolerate, doing as many bypasses as they could squeeze in. Scott called about one-thirty to say that his dad was in recovery. We don't know yet how much they succeeded in doing or what sort of improvement in heart function that will translate to. Scott's mother said the other day that the surgeon was hoping to get Scott's father's heart up to at least thirty percent efficiency.

Scott's brother and his wife are in Florida now and will stay through Thursday. We were worried that our sister-in-law would discover that the hospital and/or the surgeon weren't up to snuff, but she was able to reassure us on both counts. If she hadn't been satisfied, it's likely the surgery would have been delayed while they got Scott's father transferred to another hospital. I'm glad they could stay where they were and with the surgeon they started with. Scott's mother really liked the surgeon because he is a Christian and asked them to pray with him.

Scott's sister will be going down to Florida Thursday or Friday. I don't know how long she'll stay. When she leaves, Scott will go down. Scott's brother wants their parents to fly home and have their car shipped somehow (or maybe have Scott drive it to Michigan). Scott wasn't sure his parents could afford that.

Right now, I'm assuming that Scott won't be available for UCon and possibly not for Halloween either. My first choice to replace Scott at the LARP can't do it due to a scheduling conflict (but can help out with Halloween if need be). I have a couple of other people I can ask. I just have to get my act together and ask. Anybody local interested in running combat for a LARP on the 27th of this month?

Friday, I ended up going back to UHS. I'd called to try to make an appointment to see someone for my back, but they couldn't get me in for at least two weeks. I made a bit of a fuss, and the appointment scheduler agreed to have a nurse call me. The nurse told me to come right in. There were a couple of hoops to jump through, but I ended up seeing a doctor. He gave me some exercises that may help and referred me for physical therapy. PT can't fit me in until the seventh of November. Hopefully, by then, I won't need them.

Saturday's soccer game was rained out. I regret that because the most likely time for it to be rescheduled is the 28th, and Scott may very well be out of town then. Also, the original game was scheduled to take place at Delia's school. The rescheduled version is unlikely to be anywhere nearly so convenient. At least getting a ride to the game shouldn't be too hard. The team's relatively large, so somebody's likely to have room for us.

I got the basic LARP folders set up with all the character sheets and background information. I just have to add the rules and the index cards. Scott's in the middle of tweaking the rules. As soon as he's done, we'll print a copy and then take it to a copy shop somewhere. We've got the card stock to print the index cards. I just have to do it. Hopefully, this printer won't balk at card stock.

Scott worked on Sunday. Delia was mostly bored. She couldn't find any kids around when she went outside to look, and none of the friends she tried were available to come over and play. I did the laundry. I was nervous that lifting the baskets of clothes would further injure my back (it was laundry that caused the problem in the first place, after all), but I got through it okay.
