Apr. 9th, 2013 10:02 pmSunday was relatively busy. Scott didn't manage any of the household chores he'd meant to, but he did manage to take Cordelia out to get new soccer shoes, new tennis shoes and new socks. She also talked him into a new dress and a small Lego set (it's a girl's soccer game set). Prior to that shopping trip, we went to the library and then got bubble tea and cookies (Scott promised Cordelia a cookie a while back only to discover that the store, which is across the street from the bubble tea place, didn't open until 1 p.m. He's been meaning to get her that cookie for weeks).
Monday was a slow day for me. I ended up napping in the morning. Rec and Ed canceled all outdoor activities because it was raining in the early afternoon and they were predicting thunderstorms. As it turned out the evening was completely clear. The soccer team could have practiced without any trouble. We're expecting people to drop by all week to pick up the girls' t-shirts and emergency contact cards.
Cordelia had a couple of neighborhood kids in to play in the evening. They weren't here long, but they've had a far reaching effect-- While they were here, one of them opened the freezer in the basement and didn't close it. I discovered this twenty-four hours later. We had to throw everything out. Three and a half trash bags full. At least trash pick up is tomorrow.
I'm trying to look on the bright side. Most of that was forgotten food. Stuff we stocked up on and then forgot about. We haven't done any of that in the last year or two, so it was all old, and the freezer needed defrosting anyway.
The biggest downside (apart from no ice cream this evening) is that all of my lunches thawed. I eat a microwavable frozen meal every day for lunch, and I have none for tomorrow. I may not have any for Thursday, either, depending on how exhausted Scott is after work tomorrow. (He worked twelve hours today and is scheduled for twelve hours tomorrow. He might get lucky and not have to go in for the 3 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. part of things, but we can't count on it.)
I did do some writing today. I think I've finished the first draft of chapter 23 of Rheotaxis. I need to tweak it some and try to fix the problems I know are there. I need to spend some time thinking about what computer centered leisure activities an advanced, alien society might have. I keep thinking "Well, x thing that's like what we have now," and that's not really very imaginative. I suspect that people will come up with things we haven't even dreamed of in the next few decades, and this is an alien culture. I'm not going the holodeck route and, while they might have VR immersion stuff, they don't have it in this particular place. I'm thinking of stuff meant to be done on a limited network (about 3000 people with no outside contact).
