Not much happened this weekend. Scott didn't have to work. Instead of going out for dinner on Saturday, he and Cordelia went over to [personal profile] cherydactyl's house to play games. The original plan was to go see fireworks, but it was too wet out. I had to explain to Scott's sister what was going on. She simply asked for more notice next time.

Scott feels that going out to dinner for our anniversary is unnecessary, given that we went out for lunch. I suppose he's got a point. I just want to do something without Cordelia. Twenty seems like a big anniversary. What I really want is a night with Cordelia elsewhere. Unfortunately, she's still terrified of sleeping away from us, so that's not going to happen any time soon.

Sunday was just ordinary things-- laundry, a trip to the library and to get bubble tea. Cordelia had softball practice in the evening. Scott and I watched an episode of Leverage while she was gone, and I made muffins for Cordelia's breakfasts for the next two weeks. I'd sort of pictured doing other things, but this was Scott's choice.

Yesterday's softball game was cancelled due to poor field conditions. I'm not entirely sorry. Sitting for two hours in the rain and chill (it was in the mid-60s) wasn't appealing. The downside is that they'll reschedule the game, and it's not likely to be at a convenient time.

My sister finally got back to me about when she's coming to Michigan. Her husband and both his parents are coming, so they'll be coming the first week of August rather than the last week of July. They'll also have to rent a second car when they get to Ann Arbor if they're going to take me and Cordelia along (as is the plan) to Grandma's. They plan to rent a house, but they're kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel, doing it so late in the season. The house my sister's looking at wouldn't have room for me and Cordelia, most likely, so we'd have to stay at Grandma's. I'm concerned that she'll wear herself out, trying to be a good hostess. She's gotten kind of frail now that she's in her mid-80s.

Cordelia's camp this week is called 'Homesteaders.' The kids are supposed to be doing a bunch of crafts to learn about how early (white) settlers in Michigan did things. They made candles and did some dying yesterday. I think Cordelia said the dyes were made from basil, beets, onions and one other thing that's eluding me. Cordelia's candle came out looking rather deformed. It wouldn't stand up even if we had a candle holder the right size. Her tie dyed handkerchief smells strongly of vinegar. I don't know how color fast the dyes they used are, so I hesitate to wash it. They also made 'lanterns' out of tin cans by pounding a screw into the can at intervals to put in holes. I think Cordelia said they used rocks as hammers. (I suspect that the counselors were desperate for indoor activities because it was cold and rainy all day yesterday.)

Last week's camp was called 'Citizen Scientists.' They were out and about in the woods, looking for animals and plants to photograph and to journal about. The whole thing was contributing to something called Project Noah. They took a field trip to the Arb in the middle of the week.

We picked these two camps because Cordelia thought they sounding interesting and because they didn't include an overnight. Several of the 4th/5th grade camps include an overnight, and Cordelia's not ready to do that. I wish she were.
