Yesterday's lunch was at a bad Chinese restaurant that also served Thai food. I had honey garlic chicken which tasted of neither honey nor garlic. Cordelia had chicken fried rice. The chicken was in perfect little cubes that looked a lot like tofu. Her cousin had beef with broccoli and kind of freaked out when there was other stuff (mushrooms, baby corn, bamboo shoots, that sort of thing) in it. Scott's sister had a Thai dish with rice noodles that she said was too greasy.

From there, we went to Kohl's and then to JC Penney's. Cordelia ended up looking for a dress to wear in the talent show which should be coming up in March or April. A lot of the dresses she tried on were too small, but she didn't like any of them enough to try a larger size. I got her a ten dollar shirt and a five dollar pair of pajama pants (she's been wearing a ratty pair of Little Mermaid pants that have several holes in them and barely go past her knees. I wanted something better) at JC Penney's. We went back to Kohl's because the only dress she liked all day was there. Fortunately, she was able to find it again easily because it was still on the discard rack in the changing room.

Scott's parents arrived about five or five-thirty. Scott was considerably later. I think it was nearly seven when he arrived. While we waited for him, we played Whu Knu (I think I spelled that right), a game where each person has several cards with things like bumper cars or golf or doing laundry or surprise parties on them. One person is it, and each of the others gives them the card from their hand that they think the person who's it will like best. The person who's it ranks the cards from least liked to best liked, and everybody gets points accordingly. This is a game I can play. It plays better with a lot of people, so we've never looked into buying a copy.

When Scott arrived, we had dinner. I think it was mostly leftovers. Scott's sister and her family did a turkey dinner on New Year's Eve just like we did. They wrapped their turkey in bacon which made an interesting change in flavor. I was surprised at how far in the bacon flavor went.

We only stayed until eight. Scott had to work today, and we wanted some time at home before he needed to go to bed. Cordelia wasn't entirely happy about having her bedtime reinstated, but she cooperated and went to bed by a little after nine.

After Scott gets off work today, there are several things we need to do. We'd try to do them tomorrow, but the weather sounds like it won't cooperate. We need to go to the library and do the grocery shopping. The library will take maybe twenty minutes (including driving time). Shopping will take longer. Cordelia won't be entirely pleased to be dragged along shopping, but I think it's a good thing for her and me to go along once in a while. We forget what's available at the store because we never see it. In this case, I want her to pick out some soup that she'll actually eat. Scott and I have been trying to come up with ideas for her for lunches, but she rejects everything we offer.

Tomorrow, Cordelia's hoping to have a friend over. That friend's parents have said that they'll get her here, regardless of the snow, but I don't think it will happen. We might get as much as a foot and a half. If we do, the roads will be impassable. There's also supposed to be a Girl Scout meeting tomorrow. Who knows if that will happen? If it doesn't, the troop leader may try to schedule a make up meeting. This is our one chance to do cookie sale stuff, and that's pretty important.

Cordelia and her best friend from school are using Facetime to talk to each other. They've been talking nearly non-stop since they got up this morning, and they talked all yesterday morning (while Cordelia's cousin was still sleeping). Doing this makes Cordelia happier about a dull day at home. I hope it will help tomorrow if we're snowed in and this friend can't come over.

Cordelia asked me, an hour or so ago, if we had any old clothes she could cut up. We tend to keep stuff that develops holes in the broom closet in case we need rags (and then we never use them), so there was some stuff I could give her. She says she plans to use the cloth for blankets for her stuffed animals. That doesn't seem like a bad use for the things too worn to pass on.

Right now, the sky is clear, and the sun's out. It doesn't look remotely like we should be expecting a storm. I hope the bad weather holds off long enough for us to run all of our errands.

I'm spending the day listening to the music I got for Christmas. I try to listen to each album at least three times so that I can identify the songs I particularly like and get a feel for the album in general.

Thursdays for the next couple of months are going to be even more miserable than usual. Cordelia's indoor soccer team will be practicing Thursdays from 6-8. The school where they'll practice is too far away to walk, so Scott will have to rush to be ready to take Cordelia to practice. He gets home late on Thursdays because of a mandatory after work meeting (which he says consists entirely of his boss yelling at everybody. Fun. Fun). I'll have to be sure to get Cordelia fed around five so that she's ready to go. Pretty much, she and I will get back from seeing the social worker and go straight into dinner preparation. Cordelia usually showers on Thursdays, so she'll end up getting to bed late, too, because it'll be eight-thirty, at best, by the time she's in the shower.

I'm not enthusiastic about indoor soccer. The team is roughly twice as large as it should be. The girls are going to be lucky to play as much as half of any given game. I'm not sure how many girls are on the floor at any given time, but it can't be more than seven (including the goalie), and I doubt it's that many. There are seventeen girls on the team.

I'm also not enthusiastic because a lot, if not all, of the games will be at Slauson's lower gym. There's no good way to get in there. The door from the outside opens on a narrow stairway that lets out on the gym floor. There's nowhere for the kids to change their boots for shoes or to wait before their game starts. The stairwell gets packed with people waiting to go in, and then the people leaving can't get out. The available seating is extremely limited, too. The bleachers run along the short side of the gym and aren't very high. It's inconvenient and claustrophobia inducing.

It's a good thing we went to the library today. They've already decided to stay closed tomorrow. They haven't decided yet about Monday. Cordelia couldn't find the book she wanted (one of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books) on the shelf, so we put a hold on it. That'll probably come in Tuesday.

We tried to get bubble tea, but Bubble Island is closed due to water damage. The sign said they'll reopen at an unspecified time late this month. I didn't think at the time, but I should have gone across the street to see if Momo Tea had anything that would interest me. Scott actually had a parking space, so I could have. Next week.

From there, we went grocery shopping. Cordelia complained quite a bit. I made her look at cereals and soups, trying to find something she'd be willing to eat. We ended up with a couple of different cereals-- corn flake and oatmeal squares-- to try, but she thought all the soups looked disgusting.

We got home about seven and ordered pizza. Now we're watching the Mythbusters Star Wars show. Scott's been looking forward to it ever since he first heard about it.
