Jan. 4th, 2014 11:23 amYesterday's lunch was at a bad Chinese restaurant that also served Thai food. I had honey garlic chicken which tasted of neither honey nor garlic. Cordelia had chicken fried rice. The chicken was in perfect little cubes that looked a lot like tofu. Her cousin had beef with broccoli and kind of freaked out when there was other stuff (mushrooms, baby corn, bamboo shoots, that sort of thing) in it. Scott's sister had a Thai dish with rice noodles that she said was too greasy.
From there, we went to Kohl's and then to JC Penney's. Cordelia ended up looking for a dress to wear in the talent show which should be coming up in March or April. A lot of the dresses she tried on were too small, but she didn't like any of them enough to try a larger size. I got her a ten dollar shirt and a five dollar pair of pajama pants (she's been wearing a ratty pair of Little Mermaid pants that have several holes in them and barely go past her knees. I wanted something better) at JC Penney's. We went back to Kohl's because the only dress she liked all day was there. Fortunately, she was able to find it again easily because it was still on the discard rack in the changing room.
Scott's parents arrived about five or five-thirty. Scott was considerably later. I think it was nearly seven when he arrived. While we waited for him, we played Whu Knu (I think I spelled that right), a game where each person has several cards with things like bumper cars or golf or doing laundry or surprise parties on them. One person is it, and each of the others gives them the card from their hand that they think the person who's it will like best. The person who's it ranks the cards from least liked to best liked, and everybody gets points accordingly. This is a game I can play. It plays better with a lot of people, so we've never looked into buying a copy.
When Scott arrived, we had dinner. I think it was mostly leftovers. Scott's sister and her family did a turkey dinner on New Year's Eve just like we did. They wrapped their turkey in bacon which made an interesting change in flavor. I was surprised at how far in the bacon flavor went.
We only stayed until eight. Scott had to work today, and we wanted some time at home before he needed to go to bed. Cordelia wasn't entirely happy about having her bedtime reinstated, but she cooperated and went to bed by a little after nine.
After Scott gets off work today, there are several things we need to do. We'd try to do them tomorrow, but the weather sounds like it won't cooperate. We need to go to the library and do the grocery shopping. The library will take maybe twenty minutes (including driving time). Shopping will take longer. Cordelia won't be entirely pleased to be dragged along shopping, but I think it's a good thing for her and me to go along once in a while. We forget what's available at the store because we never see it. In this case, I want her to pick out some soup that she'll actually eat. Scott and I have been trying to come up with ideas for her for lunches, but she rejects everything we offer.
Tomorrow, Cordelia's hoping to have a friend over. That friend's parents have said that they'll get her here, regardless of the snow, but I don't think it will happen. We might get as much as a foot and a half. If we do, the roads will be impassable. There's also supposed to be a Girl Scout meeting tomorrow. Who knows if that will happen? If it doesn't, the troop leader may try to schedule a make up meeting. This is our one chance to do cookie sale stuff, and that's pretty important.
