Jan. 24th, 2014 11:13 amThere's no school today due to the wind chill. I've only got Cordelia today. Her friend has a cold, and her mother decided to keep both kids at home. Cordelia will still be going with them to that university event this evening. Either Scott will take her or her friend's father will pick her up (Scott is committed to working until seven tonight if someone is needed. We can hope he won't be needed, but chances are he will be. Saying he'd work late tonight is the only reason he didn't have to work late last night, and last night, he absolutely had to be home for Cordelia to get to practice and for a Science Olympiad meeting).
I tried getting another friend to come over to play with Cordelia, but she wanted to stay home and play Minecraft with some other friends. Cordelia's disappointed. She's watching TV (old Looney Tunes cartoons) and telling me how bored she is.
She has decided to read Ella Enchanted after all. I'm hoping she finishes it quickly because I'd like to keep reading along with Mark Reads (which isn't doing any chapters this week but will pick up with the book again on Monday). I'm getting the book on CD from the library (the paper book isn't available right now), so hopefully I can follow along with that if Cordelia's not done.
I did go back to bed for a couple of hours after I found out that Cordelia's friend and her brother weren't coming. There was no need to be up at seven if they weren't coming. Their mother wanted Cordelia to come over for the day, but the timing didn't work out. Scott would have had to drop her off (like me, the mother in question can't drive), and he'd have had to drop her off extremely early, around six.
Since I only have Cordelia, I could have gone to my eye exam by taxi. Oh, well, there was no way I could have known that yesterday morning when I canceled. I'm just as happy not to have needed to go out in this weather even if it does mean missing out on lunch downtown.
