I'm kind of surprised Rec & Ed hasn't canceled today's games. The temperature is fine (for January), but the roads are terrible. The snow is blowing around like crazy, and some back roads are reportedly drifted shut. They're telling people to stay home if at all possible.

Scott wants to clean the refrigerator, and he needs to work on the light fixture in the bathroom. Two of the three lights in the fixture are bad, and it's only a matter of time for the third one, and then we'll be in the dark in there. We could smell something nasty happening when the other two lights had bulbs in them. Scott and I think that may have been the smell that woke me a few weeks ago. Of course, I'm a little dubious now that I think about it-- The light would have been off for at least eight hours when that burning smell woke me, and Scott and I only smelled the burning when the light was on and there were bulbs in the fixture.

Grocery shopping needs to happen. I don't know if it will today or if Scott will do it on his way home from work tomorrow. He prefers shopping early in the day because there aren't so many people, but it's almost noon now, and he's got things he has to do before he can go out.

I've got the dishwasher ready to go as soon as Scott finishes showering. There will be a lot more dishes once we start digging into the fridge. We have storage containers holding some really old and nasty leftovers. Those containers will simply have to wait for the next run of the dishwasher. I'll have to make sure they get emptied promptly. Scott has a tendency to pull those containers out and stack them, still full and closed, on the counter, leaving them for someone else to deal with. Ick.

Cordelia's indoor soccer game was either a loss or a tie. Scott thinks it was a tie. I think he lost count, and it was a loss. I haven't asked Cordelia what she thinks.

Judging by the fact that Cordelia was one of the largest girls on the team, I'm guessing that there were a lot of fourth graders on the team (the teams combine fourth and fifth grades). Cordelia's not large for her age. She's usually in the middle, size wise, when compared to her peers.

The game moves really fast. Controlling the ball is a real issue. Generally, if unimpeded, the ball will roll all the way across the gym. There are a lot of kick ins as the ball goes out of bounds. The goalie box is quite large compared to the size of the court.

We stopped for bubble tea on the way home. Bubble Island is still closed, so we went back to Momo Tea. I got ginger again, and Cordelia tried lychee. She says the lychee is okay which I count as a win. Scott has decided that he dislikes how Momo Tea does their tapioca pearls, so he didn't get anything. I was tempted to try honey tea, but I might not get another chance at ginger. Bubble Island should be open again next week.

Scott got most of the fridge cleaned. I did the initial run through, pulling out the leftovers of the ancients. I also moved some of the food into the cooler. I gave priority to things that were more likely to go bad and left things like the orange juice that would simply get warm. Scott took out all the shelves and drawers and washed them. He scrubbed the bottom of the fridge. We have no idea where the goop down there came from, but it's now gone. Neither of us touched the stuff in the door, so that still remains to be done.

Scott didn't get around to the bathroom light this today. Since he's working tomorrow, that means it will have to wait for next weekend. He's just not home early enough to be able to get into working on the light. He needs sunlight to work. It'll take us a little bit to figure out which circuit the light is on, too.

We also didn't get to the library today. We're going to have to do that after Scott gets off work tomorrow. He's annoyed about that because there are other things he wants to get done, but I've got a DVD that can't be renewed (fines for DVDs are $1 a day) and a hold that will expire at 6:00 tomorrow. I suppose, if it's warm enough, Cordelia and I could go down by bus. I just hate to use the bus on the weekend because they're all once an hour. We don't have enough to do at the library to justify staying an hour. Of course, if nobody uses the bus on the weekend, they aren't ever going to improve service.

I miss reading fanfic. I haven't really done it in a couple of years. As an example, I read very few Yuletide stories this year, and that was more than I read the year before. I've set myself a daily task on HabitRPG to read one Yuletide story a day. We'll see where that gets me.

I think that part of my problem is that the recent fandoms I know something about are all live action, either TV or movies. I have trouble reading fic for live action fandoms, especially romantic and/or explicit stuff. I'm too aware that the characters are portrayed by actors, and I can't separate the characters from the actors well enough to submerge in a story (RPF, unless it's about historical figures at least fifty years dead, creeps me out. I can't deal with it).

Another problem is that, right now, I mostly want to read gen. Sorting that out from the shippy stuff is a challenge that I haven't felt up to in recent months. I suppose I should learn how to filter for it on AO3. I'm not against having a pairing in the background. I just don't want the story to be about the pairing.

I think I need to try wandering around in fandoms I know nothing about. Or maybe I should look at old fandoms. I haven't been keeping up with anything but Weiss Kreuz, and I haven't been reading much of anything in that. So perhaps the difficulty isn't simply not being able to find fic to read as much as it is not being motivated to look for fic to read. I don't know.

What fandoms have you been reading? Do you know any fandoms that are good places to find gen fic?
