Apr. 10th, 2014 02:00 pmYesterday, Scott took the kids bowling. Our guests own their own bowling shoes, so I assume their family bowls often. After the bowling, they came and got me, and we went for frozen yogurt. The kids had been looking forward to that more even than to the bowling.
Our guests' mother sent food for lunch yesterday, so I didn't have to cook for the kids. It was spaghetti with chicken and peppers. Scott and I didn't eat any because of the peppers. She also sent dessert, something made with coconut, butter and sweetened condensed milk. Cordelia hesitated over that because she doesn't like coconut, but she tried it and ate about half of her serving.
This morning, I napped for a bit. I really shouldn't have because that left Scott alone with four kids in the house. We had an extra all morning. She came over so that she, Cordelia and Cordelia's other friend could work on their science fair poster. Scott was so harried that he never got breakfast.
A little before eleven, a guy from Hanson's came to give us an estimate on the roof. We don't absolutely need a new roof yet, but the current one went in in 1991, so it's just a matter of time. I'd love to get in done and not have to worry about it, but we really can't afford to take on another big debt. We've just finished paying off Scott's laptop, and the money we would have paid for that is now going toward paying down the home equity line of credit. Of course, as far as the roof goes, we'll eventually have no choice. I'd like to do it before we get a leak that does damage inside the house. Scott thinks we've got plenty of time and don't have to worry about it.
Scott has taken the kids to a movie. We wanted them out of the house when the cleaning lady comes. She'd have trouble working around them. They went to see Mr Peabody and Sherman. Cordelia started freaking out this morning, not wanting to go because of her terror over movie previews (she had one extremely traumatic experience when she was about four). Scott and I tried to reassure her or to come up with ways to make the whole thing more manageable, but we had no luck. I hope she can make it through. If she can, the whole thing will seem less terrifying next time.
Tomorrow, it will be just the three of us, and Scott and I will have the option of sleeping in. We may not end up doing it because we're talking about going out for breakfast. Cordelia vehemently vetoed Cafe Marie. She says the food there is terrible. She was against trying the Northside Grill which is also close and also does breakfast. She favored Big Boy which we weren't too keen on. I think we've settled on Bob Evans. It's a bit of a drive, but the food is pretty good, and all three of us like the idea.
