Cordelia has finished reading The Blood of Olympus. Now she has to find something new to read. Neither her English teacher nor I are going to let her reread The Heroes of Olympus series for her homework. I'm going to insist that she check out at least one new to her book each week at the library. I won't insist that she finish the book in question, just that she try a chapter or three. Hopefully, she'll realize quickly that taking out more than one book increases the odds of finding something she'll enjoy.

I'm hopeful. She's put a hold on a book called The Romeo and Juliet Code. I have no idea if it's any good or if she'll like it, but it is something she hasn't read before.

I had another hot flash last night. I was just sitting on the couch and suddenly I was sweating and far too hot. It took about half an hour to pass. Interestingly, it was accompanied by sudden and complete exhaustion. I was doing fine and expecting to stay up another hour and a half. Then I was sagging and wobbling and ready to sleep. The hard part with that was that Scott had to go to bed early so he could go to work early and that Cordelia also needed to get ready for bed. I couldn't crash until after the two of them had cleared the bathroom.

I did my volunteer stint in the school library this morning. The other two mothers who usually volunteer on Thursdays weren't there. I don't know if that's permanent or just a one time thing. Both of them have kids in the third grade class that comes in about 8:30. I shelved books (lots of books), checked books in and out, and did more shelf markers. This time, I was putting Type To Learn logins on the sticks. I did two classes. I ran into a bit of trouble-- I had three logins that flipped over and stuck to the tape blank side up. I managed to salvage all three, but it was frustrating. I was wondering if I should just give up for the day (all three happened in the second half of the second class), but I persevered, and I think all of them came out readable.

I tried two green teas from the samples [livejournal.com profile] anderyn gave me.

The first was Stash's ginger peach green tea. I liked that fairly well. I think I could taste the ginger. I tasted something that wasn't green tea, at any rate. That goes on the list of things to try again.

The second was Allegro's organic northwest minty green tea. That tasted very minty, very much like a pure peppermint tea. I liked it, but I probably won't buy any as mint is one of the things I'm supposed to be wary of for reflux reasons (it relaxes the sphincter at the bottom of the esophagus). I miss mint tea.

My father has asked to see some of my fan fiction. This isn't a disaster. There's a lot of it that's G or PG or PG-13 that I'm perfectly willing to send him. I just don't know which canons he's familiar with (The Chronicles of Narnia and The Chronicles of Amber are good bets). I've sent him a message with a list of fandoms I've written, asking him which he knows.

I also don't know what formats he can read. Some of my older fic is MSWord. The more recent stuff is all TextEdit, and that can be kind of temperamental. I'm not sure what he'd do if the file didn't open or if it opened to gibberish. Most of what I've written is short enough that I can cut and paste it into an e-mail, I suppose.

I wish I were comfortable pointing him to my website or to AO3, but I'd rather he not see my explicit stuff. I don't think he'd be freaked out that I write such things. It's just not the sort of thing I want to share with any of my parents (and I suspect my father would be happier if I didn't).
