I'm a little concerned that the senior moderator for [community profile] metanews is having some sort of family emergency or other big issue. She's not responding to my emails, and the last I checked, she had put any links in this week's document. The last time this happened her father was in the hospital. I hope we don't have to do another post with two weeks worth of links. This week's post as an awful lot of links, and I've already collected about thirty more for next week without looking at any of our usual sources. They're not even all about the Hugos.

We had a tornado warning last night. We chose to ride it out upstairs because there wasn't a good way to get me downstairs and then back up again without putting weight on my broken foot. Our stairs are too narrow for Scott to support me and have only a single railing (which I wouldn't trust with my full weight, not when I know how flimsy the walls are). I don't know what we'll do next time there's a tornado warning. It is the season for them after all.

I am worried that I'm putting too much weight on my foot too often. The walker won't fit into the bedroom or the bathroom, and keeping it right outside the bedroom would effectively block the hallway and prevent Scott and Cordelia from getting out without taking the dratted thing with them. That means I walk in the bathroom and in the bedroom, only a few steps but still some. I also walk to the bedroom from the living room at bedtime and back from the bedroom to the living room in the morning. I walk back and forth from the bedroom to the bathroom at 5 a.m. to take my thyroid medicine, too (having the walker wouldn't really help with this as there are only two or three steps in the hallway where I could actually use it).

Maybe I should have said yes to the knee scooter. I'm not sure, though. I googled knee scooters, and judging by the pictures, one of those wouldn't necessarily fit into the bathroom and pretty definitely wouldn't fit in the bedroom. I'd also be very concerned about getting back out again if I did manage to get in. They look like they move best going forward, and turning corners while going backward is kind of necessary to navigate in this house.

I think I let my bananas get a little too ripe before I had Cordelia put them in the fridge. They're not utterly inedible, but I'm not enjoying them at all. Oh, well. There's only one left, and tomorrow, Scott will do the grocery shopping.

This morning, Cordelia forgot to stir my coffee. I thought it tasted kind of strange, and then I found a big lump of goo in the bottom of the mug.

I think I am going to ask Scott to change the sheets this weekend. It's not easy to do solo, but I think he can do it. We've had the same sheets for five or six weeks now, and it's way past time to change them.

I got a bath in last night. I'm not sure I got all the conditioner and shampoo out of my hair. It didn't feel right when I brushed it this morning. Someone in Yuletide chat mentioned the existence of dry shampoo, and I'm going to have Scott look into that. It might be easier than washing my hair in the bath. It took two tries to get me out of the tub last night. The first time, I slipped back in entirely when I tried to pivot to get one leg out of the tub while I was sitting on the edge of it. The second time, Scott held onto me while I got my legs up and over.

I'm debating giving up on my current book. Last night, I found myself skipping over paragraphs entirely, just barely registering even the first sentence. I take that as a bad sign for my being able to get anything out of it if I keep reading, and I'll most likely be forcing myself if I continue. It's a pity-- It's an interlibrary loan book, so I went out of my way to get it, and it sounded interesting.

I have a DVD out from the library that I'm probably not going to get to watch. I've kept forgetting about it this week when I had time to watch, and when I remembered, the task of getting the dratted thing into the DVD player (or of getting Cordelia to do it) seemed insurmountably difficult. I can't renew the DVD because there are fifteen to twenty other people waiting for it. I also can't watch it today because I've got three kids in the house and they're pretty certain to be using the WiiU all day. I might have a chance tomorrow, but I also might not. It will depend on whether or not Scott's willing to make a special trip out to return it (it's due tomorrow). He may well want to return it on his way home from work tomorrow morning (he's scheduled to work 3-7).

Scott's laptop seems to be recognizing its battery again. Scott's relieved. Cordelia's iPad mini, on the other hand, is powering itself down more and more often, sometimes as often as every ten minutes. It seems to work better if she takes it out of its case, but it still stops working from time to time. Scott's done everything that is possible to do here. The next step is to take it in or to ship it to Apple for repairs. Cordelia is not at all pleased by either option, both because she uses the iPad to help herself get to sleep and because either option will cost money. Scott's thinking that we should get her a new (refurbished) iPad mini for her birthday in May. We can still try to get the old one fixed and then use that with our TV.
