I'm wearing the boot again this morning. My foot and ankle were hurting quite a bit when I got up this morning (nights are not kind to them. I keep moving wrong and waking myself up due to pain), and I thought the boot would be more useful than the new brace. I'll go back to the new brace later in the day, I think, when the boot becomes uncomfortable.

Cordelia's school is having the program called Cross Country Kids again this year. I didn't think they would because they didn't have it in the fall, but some parents have stepped forward to organize it. The program was the brainchild of the former physical education teacher, the one who passed away last year. Some other teachers kept it going last year in his memory, but they're all at other schools now. In years past, Cross Country Kids was in the mornings, during the hour before school started. With school starting at 8:10 now, that's not so feasible, so they're doing it after school, between 2:50 and 4:00. That will, at least, mean that the kids don't get their shoes soaked in dew (it was recommended to send an extra pair of shoes and socks with one's child. We never did because Cordelia said it wasn't a big deal and because we'd have had to buy a second pair of shoes for her).

Cordelia wasn't going to do Cross Country Kids because she hates running, but then she found out that her best friend is doing it. I haven't filled out a permission form for it yet, but the parent in charge said it's okay for Cordelia to participate this afternoon as long as I fill out the form and get it in this week. I don't think the form is so much for permission as for them to know how many bottles of water to buy and how many t-shirts to order and in what sizes. I suspect that Cordelia and her friend will simply walk the course and talk with each other. That's what they've done in years past. I figure, even walking, it's exercise.

I posted a special bulletin in [community profile] metanews yesterday because I thought the links were relatively time sensitive. The subject of the special bulletin was a website that's been scraping content from various places, including AO3, Wattpad and individual websites and reposting it. The whole thing seems to be related to a scam site aimed at stealing credit card information. The DreamWidth version of the post is here for those who haven't already heard about this. I will put any further links I find about the topic in the usual weekly post.

I wasn't sure about posting this special bulletin, but the other moderator was offline (I believe they're in Australia while I'm in the US. Our schedules do not generally intersect much), so I made the call independently. This isn't the sort of thing we've done before, not that I know of at any rate.

Scott and I watched four episodes of Leverage yesterday, one of the advantages of Scott having the day off. We bought sandwiches from Subway for lunch. I still miss their seafood and crab subs. I know it wasn't real crab, but it was tasty and always my first choice for years and years. Now, I don't really ever know what I'm going to order.

Supposedly, last night was another PTO restaurant fundraiser, but they seem not to have sent home the necessary coupon for us to use, so we just ate leftovers. The last time there was a restaurant night, they sent out a link to a Google doc for the coupon but never actually made that document accessible to anybody but the person who created it. I'm not very impressed by the PTO's level of organization as far as these fundraisers go.

I just did another [community profile] metanews post about the site that's been scraping and posting content. The whole thing is looking shadier and shadier by the moment-- The site appears to be part of a network of sites linked to a site known for stealing credit card information. The site has fic, journal articles, and professionally published books (or so it claims).

If you've ever posted anything anywhere, it's worth going over and searching your name/pseudonym to see if they have anything of yours. (Don't try to use the author index. It's not actually alphabetical, so it's fairly useless.) Some of the links at [community profile] metanews explain how to send them a take down notice. You do not have to reveal your legal name to do that, and you do not need a lawyer.

Their bots have hit multiple fanfic sites and many private websites as well. The stuff they took appears to be pretty random. They have four of my stories (out of fifty four posted on AO3) in four different fandoms, and none of them are particularly popular or well known.

ETA: My fics seem to be gone from the site in question. I'm glad of that. There's still a lot of questionable content there, however.
