I've gotten through the list of my remixee's fics. I haven't read all of the stories. There are so many that I felt overwhelmed. I focused on the ones that didn't seem to be romances and on those, including romances, that featured characters I think I know how to write. I can probably fake my way through most characters in the fandom but I'm wary of running into bits of canon that I've forgotten or never really registered. I don't actually have access to the canon for review and fact checking, and while there is a fandom wiki, it loads continuously which can sometimes crash Firefox, so I try to spend as little time there as I can get away with.

I need to take a little bit of time today to read the first three chapters of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe so that I can discuss them in the reread happening at Narnia Fan Fiction Revolution. It's been many years since I last read the book, and I really hope I can think of something to say, both on my own and in response to whatever other people say.

I'm sending Scott and Cordelia off to the library without me today. I probably could go and walk around a bit, but I'm still wary about doing that much. And I still haven't found my right shoe, so I'd have to put on the boot. I'd just rather not.

Cordelia and I are both having an interesting time trying to manage our holds. It's a bit of a guessing game. If something's going to come in during the next week, we want it to go one place. For the week after that, things are up in the air as the downtown library might be open again then but also might not. I know Scott would prefer not to go to both places if we can avoid it. Anything more than two weeks out definitely should go to the downtown library, but guessing which things those will be is harder. This worries Cordelia more than it does me as she wants the things she puts holds on at the earliest possible moment. Waiting an extra week will seem intolerable.

My headache came back yesterday, right around bedtime, so I had trouble sleeping. Scott suggested that it's changes in the weather doing it, but I haven't ever had trouble with that before. Also, it rained all day yesterday and was still raining when we went to bed, so I'm not entirely clear as to what weather change he was talking about. I am doing much better today. Hopefully, that will continue.

Scott is concerned that the air conditioner is not doing its job. We did have trouble with it last summer, and the guy who replaced the coolant said he couldn't tell how bad the leak was. We hadn't had the dratted thing looked at since we moved in here about nineteen years ago (has it really been that long?), so he said it was entirely possible that the leak was very minor and wouldn't be an issue for many more years. He added, however, that if it was a big leak, we'd need to replace the unit entirely. He put some dye in with the coolant so that, wherever the leak is, the dye will make it obvious.

I think the air conditioner's fine. The thermostat is reading what it's supposed to, even when it's considerably warmer outside. I'm not sure why Scott's noticing it so much this year. What with work, he's used to it being considerably warmer, so our 80F usually feels icy to him. We've also got ceiling fans going which makes most of the house feel even cooler.

This upcoming week has a bit of school stuff going on. The fifth and sixth grade orchestras will perform from 6:30 to 7:00 Tuesday evening, and the Ice Cream Social is on Friday. Normally I'd volunteer for the Ice Cream Social, but I have serious doubts about whether I can or should be on my feet for over two hours without breaks. Cordelia still wants to go but only because she expects to be able to play with her friends on the playground. The games and activities are all aimed at kids much younger than she is. They've also changed what they're doing for food-- In past years, the PTO sold pizza by the slice. This year, they're trying to get families to order whole pizzas in advance. I guess I'll have to feed Cordelia before she goes instead of assuming she'll eat there.

Some parents are also working on organizing a couple of hours of outdoor activities for the sixth graders the last Thursday of the school year. That's something else I'd normally volunteer for but don't see how I can this year. They do have a sign up sheet for providing supplies, so I'll talk to Scott and see what we can offer that way.

There's also going to be a 5K run the last session of Cross Country Kids. I don't know if that's the 9th or the 11th. Cordelia says she doesn't want to do it, and I don't plan to force her. Last year, she and her best friend handed out water at a station along the course. Cordelia says that, if her friend is available, she'd like to do that again. The 5K is another thing for which I'd usually volunteer and don't see how I can this year.

Yesterday afternoon, Scott realized that it was the day of the Science Olympiad. That only goes up through fifth grade, so we weren't involved this year (well, Scott talked a bit to the woman who was coaching the event he coached last year). It was just a little strange to realize that, in a different year, we'd have been out all day doing that. We did get a call from a family we know with a daughter in fifth grade. They wanted to borrow Scott's calculator and have him explain how to make scientific notation work with it. They told us that this year's Olympiad is lasting longer because they've changed how they divide up the grades (They had to do something. There were more and more schools wanting to participate, and each new school adds to the time required for each event). They told us that the fifth grade stuff wasn't going to be done until around 9:00 or 9:30.

Okay, time to start writing or start link finding. I don't much feel like doing either, but both need doing, and I've got hours yet today.
