Jan. 14th, 2016 09:31 amI waited almost an hour past my appointment time to see my doctor, so Cordelia got home just a little after I went into the office. My doctor said to take some naproxen and see how it goes. If I’m still having trouble in another week or two, she’ll refer me to a foot specialist. My doctor ordered x-rays, just in case. Those came back normal except for some signs of arthritis in my toes (which are decidedly not what hurts).
Surprisingly, my doctor did not mention my weight once. I thought that, given unexplained pain in my foot, she was sure to. There’s a reason I’ve never talked to her (or any doctor) about pain in my knees.
I think my base blood pressure has gone up a little. It’s still well within normal range, but I used to run 90/70 and now tend to be 100/70 or 100/60. I might go as high as 110/70, but that would be abnormal. High blood pressure runs in my father’s family, but low blood pressure is in my mother’s family, and I seem to have gotten that. In terms of me, my sister, and my mother, I actually have the highest blood pressure.
I did no writing yesterday. Well, I did do some rp posts, but that’s not quite the same thing. Basically, I was too stressed out before my appointment and too tired after. I think I may need to start something new and let the two things I’ve been working on the last couple of weeks stew.
I managed to weed out my email inbox (mostly by sorting things into other folders) and got down under 10 messages. Four of those come from the last couple of days. The next most recent is from August. After that, I start skipping back years. I did uncover a message from 2007 that I definitely intended to respond to, one from a college friend of Scott’s. I know she’s still living in the same place because she and her partner send us Christmas cards every year, so it’s possible that her email address hasn’t changed. I’ll try sending her a message and see. I’m not sure if she’s one of the people Scott’s in touch with on Facebook or not.
A lot of things fell by the wayside in 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 because I was taking Cordelia to her co-op pre-school several times a week which was physically and psychologically exhausting. I’m pretty sure I would not have made it through the second year if
cherydactyl hadn’t started taking her daughter to the same place and been able to give us a ride home almost all the time. During 2007/2008, Cordelia had pre-school twice a week. During 2008/2009, she had pre-school three times a week. The difference was bigger than I anticipated.
Part of the reason I’d picked the pre-school was that it was an easy bus trip on the #2 line. We had a ten minute walk to the bus stop, but there was a bus every fifteen minutes, and it let us off about twenty feet from the church where the pre-school was housed. Getting home was harder because I didn’t want to deal with the steep hill that we’d have to climb if we took the #2 back, but taking the #1 involved either walking several blocks and waiting quite a while or taking the inbound #2 and hoping we could make the connection to transfer. The #1 only runs once every half an hour, so missing it was more of a hardship than missing the #2 would be.
Cordelia has started using some sort of perfumed skin product. It’s not bad enough for me to ask her to stop, but it is making my nose tickle a lot. Also, last week, our cleaning lady gave her some sort of spray to make her room smell 'nice.' That gave me some trouble, but she’d used half of the bottle by Saturday evening when she told me what it was that I’d been smelling, so I thought I’d just let it run its course. I am sneezing a lot today, but I can’t tell if it’s scent related or if I’m getting a cold. I really don’t want a cold.
I checked with the parents of the Bat Mitzvah girl, and they’ve invited four other girls Cordelia’s age, all of whom she knows. One of the girls is a nice kid but not someone I’d trust to behave respectfully. I don’t know. Maybe she will for this— She’s Jewish herself and observant enough not to eat marshmallows that contain gelatin. At any rate, three of the four families are folks I’d be comfortable asking if they could give Cordelia a ride. The father of the Bat Mitzvah girl said that, of course, Scott and I would be welcome, and I think we know them well enough not to feel out of place. We all sat together at years of Rec & Ed sports and school concerts.
Scott had to go to work early this morning. They called about 9:00 last night to tell him. He wasn’t happy about it, but he told me that he’s the only one on his shift who wasn’t already doing overtime some time this week. It’s just that, if he’s getting up at 2:00, he needs to be in bed by 8:00 to have a chance at five hours of sleep.
