I got up with Cordelia this morning in order to make her some tea. The fact that she was grateful and happy to have me around tells me that she’s feeling pretty rotten. The problem is that she’s so rarely sick that she has no idea how to deal with it and thinks that relatively minor things are huge. Scott and I can’t tell when she’s very sick versus when she thinks she might be but doesn’t want us to think so. In this case, it’s pretty clearly a cold. She was a trifle warm last night and this morning, but it was on the level of her feeling like she’d just gotten out of bed after being buried in blankets rather than a this-is-definitely-a-fever feeling.

I think that, last night, Cordelia thought seriously about staying home from school, but hearing that she’d have to stay home from fun night, too, ended that. I reminded her this morning that, if she feels too rotten, she can ask to come home. I will walk over and sign her out if it comes to that.

I am not looking forward to catching this cold, but it’s pretty likely that I will. Cordelia rarely catches anything that I don’t end up with in turn.

I wrote two or three paragraphs of a new fic yesterday (yes, another one). This one’s Weiss Kreuz and for a prompt exchange. I didn’t put forth any prompts for the the exchange, but, as far as I can tell, it’s the sort of thing where some people offer and some people prompt and some people do both. I have a terrible, terrible time coming up with prompts, so I don’t do it unless I really need to (or inspiration strikes).

I got all of the books that I meant to shelve yesterday shelved. I was helped immensely by the cleaning lady bringing two stacks down to the basement for me while I was shelving a third. It’s the up and down the stairs that’s hardest about putting away books. That and the activation energy to stand up and go down there to begin with.

Most of today’s to-do list is writing related with a good bit more in terms of shelving books. There’s only one practical chore to be done between now and when I prepare dinner, and putting the dirty dishes in the dishwasher will likely take only about five minutes. I may end up napping, though, because I’m kind of groggy in spite of breakfast and coffee.

We need to get Cordelia some black shoes. At the last minute last night, she borrowed my loafers. I stepped out of them (it’s cold enough in here that my feet ache if I don’t wear shoes or slippers, and my slippers have vanished), and she stepped right into them. The friend of hers who had dinner with us didn’t bother wearing her coat to go to the school which I didn’t notice until she came back, complaining about being cold. The second friend who needed a ride home after the concert also didn’t have a coat, having left hers at home for reasons that escape me. She was even in short sleeves. It was only one degree over freezing; it was not, by any measure, warm, and it takes a few minutes to walk here from the school.

I want to do a general book cull. As I was shelving yesterday, I saw things that I don’t think we need to keep any longer, and I know there are a lot of books on my shelves in the bedroom that I’m never, ever going to read. I just have to figure out where to put them and where to take them once I’ve gathered them up. Scott will not be pleased by another pile in the living room or basement (I won’t be either), but where else to put them? We’ve already got a smallish box of Cordelia’s culls in the living room, waiting for someone (probably me) to carry them over to the school to donate. That mainly hasn’t happened because I can’t carry all of them at once and have a harder time getting myself to do something like that when it will only yield a partial result.

So far today, I’ve made and posted the notes on chapter 12 of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

I’ve also done the dishes and done some major cat waxing in the form of making a list of all of the unready books I have on my shelves in the bedroom. I’ve even spent a good bit of time sorting that list into categories: things I’ve started reading, things in series I’ve read early books from, things by authors I’ve enjoyed other things by, gifts, and other stuff. A lot of these books, I no longer remember buying.

If I get really deep into cat waxing territory, I’ll add notes to the list and post it (or part of it) here. I’m going to try to get other things done instead, though. I’ve got a lot of books to shelve and several writing projects I want to work on. I also want to do the Scrivener tutorial. I’ve started it twice and gotten distracted, and I’d really like to actually, you know, use the program. Maybe I should try using it and figure out what I need as I go? That would make me more likely to delve into things.
